PROTECTIVE LAYERS OF KIDNEY

 FIBROUS CAPSULE
 PERIRENAL FAT CAPSULE
 RENAL FASCIA
Nephrons - structural and functional units of the kidneys and are responsible for
forming urine.
Renal pelvis - functions to collect urine produced by the nephrons.

Two (2) main structures of the nephron:

 renal corpuscle - each renal corpuscle consists of a glomerulus, which is a knot
of capillaries. glomerularcapsule or Bowman’s capsule.
 renal tubule - The renal tubule, which makes up the rest of the nephron, is
about 3 cm (approximately 1.25 inches) long.

Regions of the tubule:

• Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT)
• Nephron loop (loop of Henle)
• Distal convoluted tubule (DCT)
