Detailed Lesson Plan in

Science 6
I. Objectives
At the end of 60-minute period, the pupils should be able to attain the following with
at least 75% level of proficiency:
a. define gravity;
b. appreciate the importance of knowing gravity; and
c. Demonstrate how gravity affect people, objects, and nature.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Gravity
Reference: Science Experiences Book 6 pp. 242- 250
Materials: Pictures,
Valuing: Appreciate the importance of knowing gravity

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Introductory Phase

Good morning class. Good morning teacher. (All pupils)

How are you today? We are great teacher! (All pupils)

Very good. I’m so glad to hear that. So, Me teacher! (All pupils)
before we start our class, let us all stand
first for a prayer . Who wants to lead ?

Okay Johanna, please lead the prayer. (praying the Lord’s prayer…)

A.1. Drill

Okay class so before anything else, let us

first have a game. Do you like one? Yes teacher! (All pupils)

Very well then. Our game is entitled “

Lava floor”. so the mechanic is this.I will
group you into three . this row will be the
group one, you will be the group 2, and
the last row will be the group 3.Everyone
will sing and dance the lava song I will
present on the screen. When teacher says
“ the floor is lava”, all of you must step
on one foot and balance your body by the
count of 3. whoever team fails to do so Clear teacher! (All pupils)
will be out. Winners will be given a
certificate after the class. Is that clear?
Okay, let’s start!
(pupils are playing)
(the game has started )

So we have our winner. Let us all give a Clap, clap, clap

very good clap to group 1! ready? Go! Clap, clap, clap
Very good, very good, very good! (All
pupils)
A.2. Review

So class, who can still remember about

our topic yesterday? Me teacher! (All pupils)

Yes, Shella? Our topic yesterday was all about force

teacher.
Very good Shella. Now, who can give me
the definition of force? Me teacher! (All pupils)

Yes, Luke?
Force is a from of push and pull to move
an object teacher.
Very good Luke! Force is a from of push
and pull to move an object teacher. For
example Ball kicking, wet clothing
squeezing and so much more.

B. Interaction Phase
Yes teacher! (All pupils)
1. Motivation

Now I have here a picture class, can you

the picture on the screen? Me teacher! (All pupils)

Who can give me their observation on the

picture? The picture shows a falling person
teacher.
Yes , Jandy?

Yes, very good Jandy! Let’s all give Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap , wow! (All
Jandy a wow clap, ready? Go! pupils)

So the picture here shows that a person is

falling. Now class have you dropped
something before?
Yes teacher! (All pupils)
Oh, I see. I hope it was not fragile or
anything, am I right?
(pupils laugh)
How about this picture class?

Can you tell me what are the kids doing?

The kids are jumping teacher! (All
Very good everyone. The kids are pupils)
jumping! I’m so happy you figures out all
the pictures I gave class! For that, let us
all give ourselves a big round of
applause. ( All pupils are clapping)

2. Presentation

Now class, from the pictures I have

showed you earlier, when person fell and On the ground teacher. (All pupils)
the kids jumped, where did they actually
landed?

Very good! So what do you think will be

our topic for today class? About falling to the ground teacher.

Yes very good! Our next topic for today

is all about the reason why we always go
back to the ground when we jump or fall,
and it is called as, gravity.

3. Setting of Standards

So before we go to on to our topic class,

let me set this few rules first. I’m going to
flash some pictures and I want you to tell
me what those pictures represents. Is that
clear class? Yes teacher. (All pupils)

Very good. Now for the first picture.

What can you observe class?
The children are listening to the teacher.
(All pupils)
Yes very good. If the teacher or someone
is talking in front of you, what are you We listen teacher!
supposed to do?

Okay, very good. How about this picture

class?

The children are raising their hands

teacher.

Okay, very good. How about if I have a

question and you want to answer, what is
the best thing you should do first before We should raise our right hand teacher.
answering class?

Yes, very good class. You should always

raise your right hand first and wait for the
teacher to call your name before you get
to answer and not answer in chorus. Can I
expect that from you class? Yes teacher! (All pupils)

B.3. Discussion
Again, class our new topic is all about
gravity.

A gravity is what makes things fall

down or prevent from floating.

Example #1

Have you seen the picture that I

presented?

Okay, as you can see the children are

Yes teacher!
playing basketball.
Again, what did the children do?

Very good!
Playing a basketball game.
Do you think it is possible for basketball
players to stay up in the air for a long
time to hit or block the ball coming from
the side of their opponents? Then why?

Very good, because when we jump or try No, teacher because we can’t stay up in
to stay in the air, gravity pulls us back the air for a long-time teacher.
down to the ground. Right?

Again, what is the reason why we can’t

stay up in the air for a long time? Yes, teacher!

Very good. Obviously, the force of

gravity, or gravitational force, pulls Because of the gravity, teacher!
objects with mass toward each other. We
often think about the force of gravity
from Earth. This force is what keeps your
body on the ground. But any object with
mass exerts a gravitational force on all
other objects with mass.

Example #2

What do you see in the picture?

What is the movement of the apple fruit

as it reaches the ground? An apple fruit that falling from the tree.

How does gravity make an apple fall

downward? It is going downward and rolling on the
floor, teacher.

Very good. Also a gravity is affected by Because there is a force of attraction

the size of objects and distance between between it and the earth.
objects. A measure of the amount of
matter in an object is mass. An object
with greater mass falls faster than an
object with a small mass. When the
distance between two objects increases,
the force of gravity decreases.

As you can see in the figure, The earth,

moon, and all other celestial bodies in
outer space exert different forces of
gravity towards an object. The earth’s
gravitational force is equal to one-gravity
(1 g) while the moon, which has mass
lesser than earth, has gravitational force
that is only one-sixth to that of earth
(0.17 g). The gravitational force in space
is called microgravity and is very close to
zero-gravity.

Is it clear?

Very good. Now, look at the picture that I

placed on the board. Yes, teacher!

Have you seen the picture that I

presented?

Okay, what will happen to the cars if you

release them on the wooden plank? Yes, teacher!

If you release cars on a wooden plank

So, what will happen to the speed of the inclined at an angle, they will accelerate
car when you added two or more books to down the incline due to the force of
the stack of three books? gravity.

the force of gravity does not directly

affect the speed of the car, the added
books can indirectly influence the inertia
of the stack, potentially requiring more
force to change its speed. The primary
factors determining the speed will still be
the initial push and any resistance or
Very good! friction encountered.

Integration Phase/Activity
1. Generalization

Again class, what is our topic all about?

What is gravity? Our topic is all about gravity, teacher!

Very good!
It is what makes things fall
Can you give any examples to define down or prevent from floating, teacher.
gravity?

Very good! Yes teacher.

Another idea? The force that causes the moon to revolve
around the earth.

Very good!
Any last thoughts? An apple fruit that falling from the tree.

Very good!
A car that causes to coast downhill.
2. Valuing.

Why do you think is understanding

gravity is important?

Understanding gravity is important

because it helps explain why objects fall,
how planets move, and provides a
So how does gravity help us in real-life foundation for understanding various
situations? natural phenomena in the world.

Gravity is what keeps us firmly planted

Very good! on the ground. It provides the necessary
Another answer? force to hold us and other objects on
Earth’s surface. Without gravity, we
would float off into space, teacher!

Enabling transportation, teacher because

gravity is essential for various modes of
transportation. Whether it’s walking,

maintain traction and stability on the
ground.
