Regulation of Reproductive Hormone Secretion in Female

1.Gonadotropin- releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus stimulates the secretion of
luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary.
2. FSH stimulates follicles to secrete estrogen from the ovaries.
3. Increased estrogen level at mid-cycle stimulates LH secretion from anterior pituitary causing
ovulation.
4. LH stimulates progesterone secretion from the corpus luteum.
5. increased progesterone, estrogen after ovulation inhibits FSH, LH secretion.
A. Regulation of Reproductive Hormone Secretion in Male

1. Gonadotropin- releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus stimulates the secretion of
luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary.
2. LH stimulates testosterone secretion from the leydig cells.
3. FSH stimulates sertoli cells of the seminiferous tubules to increase the spermatogenesis and to
secrete inhibin.
4. Testosterone has the stimulatory effect on the sertoli cells as well as on the development of
reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics.
5.High testosterone level will reduce GnRH, LH, and FSH secretion from the hypothalamus and
pituitary.
6.Inhibin will inhibit FSH secretion from anterior pituitary.
