Neoglyptatelus is an extinct genus of xenarthran , belonging to the order Cingulata .It lived
from the center to the Late Miocene , and its fossilised remains are found in due south
America .== Description == This animal was roughly standardised with modern armadillos ,
but with a very dissimilar shell morphology .The size of Neoglyptatelus was situated
between the size of a greater long-nosed armadillo and that of a whale armadillo ; the
character species , Neoglyptatelus originalis , reached a length of 60 centimetre , excluding
the tail , and a weight around 15 kilograms .Its carapace was divided into two break
carapace , one scapular and the early pelvic , composed of numerous polygonal osteoderms
1 cm thick and 1.5 centimetre long , and fused together to take form a fixed social structure ;
the bum tolerance of the scapular shield , which reached about half the total distance of the
body , consisted of two words of wedge-shaped , imbricated osteoderms , covering the
anterior margin of the pelvic carapace .'Neoglyptatelus was hence equipped with a shield
rigid in almost of its complex body part , but flexible in the middle of the backbone .This is a
unique structure for a cingulate , the glyptodonts only having a completely rigid structure
formed by define osteoderms , and the modern armadillos having various mobile ring in the
midriff of their spine .The skull of Neoglyptatelus was longsighted and thin , and devoid of
teeth .The caudal armor was also composed of osteoderms placed English by side of
meat .== Classification == The genus Neoglyptatelus was get-go described in 1997 , based
on fossil remains found in Miocene terrains of Colombia ; the eccentric species is
Neoglyptatelus originalis .Two other species , N. sincelejanus from the Middle-Late Miocene
epoch of Colombia , and N. uruguayensis , from the Late Miocene of Uruguay , have been
attributed to the genus .Neoglyptatelus is an enigmatic fellow member of the order
Cingulata ; at the time of its discovery it was considered a basal appendage of the subfamily
Glyptodontinae , related to archaic physical body such as Glyptatelus and surviving in
remote sphere of Northern southward U.S. in isolation .Subsequent studies indicates that
this animal , like its Sir Thomas More late relative Pachyarmatherium , was a extremity of
the clade known as Pachyarmatheriidae , potentially and at least morphologically
intermediate between `` confessedly '' armadillos and glyptodonts .== Paleobiogeography
== The peculiar geographical distribution of Neoglyptatelus and Pachyarmatherium led
researchers to suppose that these animals , originating in Confederate States of America
America during the Oligocene epoch or the Early Miocene , migrated to North the States
during the nifty American Faunal give-and-take , during the Pliocene .== palaeobiology ==
Neoglyptatelus , with its long and narrow skull devoid of tooth , probably was an
insectivorous animal .It probably fed on ants , like the extant nine-banded armadillo , which
has a quite like skull .== Bibliography == Carlini , vitamin A .A. , Vizcaíno , S. F. & Scillato-
