Grade 5 Mathematics Module Lesson 1
Grade 5 Mathematics Module Lesson 1
Grade 5 Mathematics Module Lesson 1
- The learner will be able to show consistency in performing tasks systematically and
competently.
I. Established Goal:
The learner demonstrates understanding and appreciation of key concepts and skills
involving numbers and number sense as applied, using appropriate technology in critical
thinking, problem solving, reasoning, communicating, making connections, representations,
and decision in real life and learn values such as think well before answering.
V. Content:
A. Introduction
Drill
The Math Department has 120 pens. If each teacher should have the same number of
pens, how many teachers could there be in the department? (Critical Thinking)
Try completing the statements below. The First one has been done for you.
120 is divisible by 2 because it is an even number. All even numbers are divisible by
2.
If the sum of the digits of a number is divisible by 9, then the number is divisible
by 9.
The sum of the digits of 5 211 is 9. Therefore, 5 211 is divisible by 9.
Any number that ends in 0 is divisible by 10.
120 is divisible by 10 because it ends in 0.
B. Lesson:
“Divisible by” means when you divide one number by another, the
result is a whole number. “Divisible by” and “can be evenly divided by”
mean the same thing.
Answer: Since the last digit of the number 246 ends in 6, that means it is
divisible by 2.
Answer: For a number to be divisible by 9, the sum of its digits must also be
divisible by 9. For the number 1 764 we get 1+7+6+4=18. Since the sum of
the digits is 18 and is divisible by 9 therefore 1 764 must be divisible by 9.
Example: The number 20, 40, 50, 170, and 990 are all divisible by 10
because their last digit is zero. On the other hand, 21, 34, 127, and 468 are
not divisible by 10 since they don’t end with zero.
Tests for divisibility are even easier than the usual factoring method.
For example, to find the common factors of 18 and 44. Thus, the factors of
18 and 44 are:
18: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 18
C. Integration:
Divisibility rules look at the different digits in a given number. Depending on the
digits or combination of digits, you can determine if a number is divisible by for example
2, 3, or 5. This can help us to identify the factors of a number. Divisibility rules can be
used to easily divide large numbers. All even numbers are divisible by 2. A number is
divisible by 3 when the sum of its digits is divisible by 3. Any number that ends either in
5 or 0 is divisible by 5. Any number that is divisible by both 2 and 3 is also divisible by 6.
If the sum of the digits of a number is divisible by 9, then the number is divisible by 9.
Any number that ends in 0 is divisible by 10. A number is divisible by another number
when you divide the given number by the other number and the quotient leaves a zero
remainder.
Thank you Jesus for the divisibility rules.
Thank you Jesus I am organized.
E. Assessment:
ACTIVITY 1
Direction: Put check in the column if the given number is divisible by the
number in the top row.
Divisible by: 2 3 5 6 9 10
1. 406
2. 522
3. 714
4. 3 248
5. 4 455
6. 2 772
7. 2 020
8. 4 503
9. 7 065
10. 48 069
ACTIVITY 2
Name: ____________________________________ Section: ___________________
Direction: Find the common factors of each pair or set of numbers. Use
divisibility rules for 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, and 10. The first number was given as an
example.
1. 20 and 50 2 &10
2. 30 and 60 ____________
3. 36, 90 and 180 ____________
4. 36 and 54 ____________
5. 72 and 144 ____________
6. 72, 144, and 216 ____________
Solution:
1) 20 is divisible by 2 20 ÷ 2 = 10 2)
50 is divisible by 2 50 ÷ 2 = 25
20 is divisible by 10 20 ÷ 10 = 2
50 is divisible by 10 50 ÷ 10 = 5
3) 4)
5) 6)
OUTPUT 1
Instructions: Create your own “Divisibility Rules Posters” that you can use
as anchor charts in your study stations at home. Make your output
beautiful. (Creativity)
