2.2 Neville Charles is a 58-year-old who earned a monthly taxable income of R46 031,50 for
the 2022/23 tax year. During the 2022/23 tax year Neville was the main member of a
medical aid with two dependents.
ANNEXURE A shows TABLE 3, the tax table, tax rebates and the medical credits for the
2022/23 tax year.
2.2.1 Write down the name of the government institution responsible for the

3.1 Taryn who stays in Cape Town is considering relocating to Johannesburg. In order to
understand the financial implications of relocating, she compares the electricity tariffs
for the two cities as shown in TABLE 5 below.
Use the information above and in TABLE 6 to answer the following questions.
3.1.1 Write down the monthly capacity charge of Johannesburg to the nearest ten
rand. (2)
Calculate the difference in cost of electricity between the two cities if the cost
including VAT for Cape Town is R1 973,98. (6)
3.1.3 Taryn claimed that if she does not use any electricity for a month, she will
only pay R212,75 in monthly service charges including VAT in Cape Town.

3.2 Mpho lives in Johannesburg where they use an increasing block tariff system for the
water service. This divides water usage into blocks, where the tariff per kilolitre
increases with increased consumption.
A fixed levy of R31,08 (VAT inclusive) is charged to all residents for each water
connection.
Mpho must pay the fixed levy and for his water usage as per kilolitre according to the
block tariff per kilolitre.
Use the information above and TABLE 6 to answer the questions that follow.
Calculate what his monthly cost of water will be including VAT. (8)
3.2.2 Determine what percentage Mpho had to pay for his fixed levy on his total
monthly cost for 14 kilolitres. (3)

3.3 Abel is a metered taxi driver. His company charges the following fare for a single trip:
• A minimum call-out fee of R50 per trip with the first THREE kilometres being free.
• Thereafter, R15,00 for each additional kilometre or part thereof.
• The company charges an extra R200,00 per hour if the taxi must wait for a client
and the trip will be charges as a single trip.
TABLE 7 below shows the total cost per single trip for different distances travelled.
Use the information above and TABLE 7 to answer the questions that follow.
3.3.1 Explain the meaning of the term single trip in this context. (2)
3.3.3 Write down an equation that Abel can use to calculate the total cost (in rands)
per single trip, in the form:
Determine the total distance (in km) travelled during this trip. (5)
3.3.5 Doris hires a taxi from this company to take her to a meeting venue 20 km
from her home. The meeting is scheduled to take exactly ONE hour, and she
requests that the taxi wait for her to take her back home.
Doris claimed that it was going to be cheaper for her if she could have called
the taxi back after her meeting, instead of making it wait for her.

4.1 Johnson is a physiotherapist. He was contacted by SARU (the South African Rugby
Union) to give the 7s rugby players a massage during the rugby tournament that was
held in Cape Town during December 2022. Johnson hires 13 masseuses to perform this
duty.
