Photosynthesis vs. Cellular Respiration

I.

1. Show the chemical equations that explain the process of photosynthesis

and cellular respiration. Show and explain the connection of the two (2)
processes to each other. Write your answers on the space provided.
(5 points).

Ans:
Photosynthesis Chemical Equation:

This equation shows

the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria grow carbon dioxide and water into
glucose (a type of chemical energy) and oxygen using light energy.

Cellular respiration Chemical Equation:

Cellular respiration is the process by which cells turn glucose and oxygen into carbon
dioxide, water, and ATP.

The connections:
The transfer of energy and materials serves as the key connection between these two
processes. Photosynthesis turns light energy into glucose and oxygen, which are then uses
the cells during cellular respiration to make ATP, carbon dioxide, and water. This means that
the products of one process (photosynthesis) become reactions of another (cellular
respiration), resulting in a cycle that supports life on Earth.
II.

1. Describe the processes of photosynthesis. How is it essential to the

survival of living things on Earth?

Ans: Photosynthesis is the main source of oxygen in the atmosphere. Exercise species, such
as most plants, animals, and microorganisms, need oxygen for breathing. It allows
organisms to efficiently obtain energy from nutrients by cellular respiration.

Photosynthesis turns solar energy into chemical energy, which is then stored in glucose and
other carbohydrates. Plants need this energy for their growth, reproduction, and metabolic
functions. Furthermore, herbivores and omnivores get energy indirectly from plants by
eating plant-derived meals.

2. Describe the process of cellular respiration. What is its importance to

living things?

Ans: Cellular respiration creates ATP, which is the cell's energy currency. ATP supports a
variety of cellular functions, including muscular contraction, active transport,
macromolecule synthesis, and cellular communication.

Cellular respiration controls the amounts of glucose and other energy-rich substances within
the cell. It allows cells to take energy from nutrients effectively while maintaining metabolic
balance.

Cellular respiration helps in getting rid of waste products, such as carbon dioxide created
during metabolic processes. This procedure assures that dangerous byproducts do not build
up within cells.

The energy created during cellular respiration helps warm-blooded creatures maintain their
body temperature by supporting heat-generating processes.
