Task

Write about a time you felt lonely or isolated.

The day had come it was Halloween, I had left the house in my DIY mummy
costume covered head to toe in red food dye and toilet paper. I took a step
outside into a different world seeing vibrant colours of red, yellow and
orange glowing in the darkness, the familiar smell of burnt pumpkins and
toffee apples left an essence in the air.

I was ready to pounce at the “pick one” bowls of sweets before my mom said
to stick near her or I’d get lost, I was slightly disappointed but decided it was
for the best. We began to walk to a webbed covered houses where there
were ghosts and goblins were walking past, my mom was taking her time. So,
I thought why not and got a head start, I grabbed a sweet from the house
next door and headed back to the spot I last saw her at. But there was no one
there. My heart skipped a beat, I could feel tears forming in my eye. The only
thing I could think of was how I should have listened to her and how she was
right.

I decided to retrace my steps trying to recall the path we took to get here. But
it seemed that each step I took I would get more and more lost. I sat down at
a house that looked the most familiar to me, thinking that would give me a
better chance of finding my mum. I constantly saw groups of kids my trick or
treating I felt left out, I wanted to join in but another part of me told myself
to stay here so my mom could find me. 30 minutes had passed of calling and
crying. I would call out “MOM”, but my voice was nothing in a group of
hundreds of people. I began to lose all sense of hope.

Another parent saw me sitting by myself while pouring out tears from my
eyes. I saw a face behind her which I recognised. It was I boy I knew from
school. She said to me she knew my mum's number and that she could call
her. A massive sigh of relief came over me it wasn’t the end of the world I
was gonna see my mum again.
