5.3 G-010S-A and G-010S-B general description

The G-010S-A and G-010S-B are temperature-hardened GPON SFP ONTs. These ONTs provide a
subscriber interface for the OLT. The SFP ONTs terminate the PON interface and converts it to a
user interface that connects directly to subscriber devices.
These ONTs connect directly to customer premises equipment with a standard SFP port, including
Ethernet switches, routers, and home gateways, without requiring a separate power supply.
These ONTs provide the following functions:
• GPON uplink (ITU-T G.984 and G.985 support)
• 1G and 2.5 G modes of operation for G-010S-A
• 1G mode of operation for G-010S-B
• Type-B GPON outage protection
• 1588v2 time synchronization support (G-010S-B only)
• syncE clock frequency support (G-010S-B only)

G-010S-A and G-010S-B module characteristics

• Ethernet packet forwarding at wireline speed

• dying gasp notification (depending on host device)
• tagging, retagging, and priority bit setting
• full multicast video support with IGMP v2 snooping
• remote shut down from OLT
• TC Layer GEM encapsulation mode
• optics that support received signal strength indication (RSSI)
• OMCI support
The G-010S-A SFP ONT supports both 1G and 2.5 G modes of operation and will rate adapt to the
host SERDES rate, provided the host has been configured to be operational at 1GE rate or 2.5GE
rate.
The 1G/2.5G auto-negotiation algorithm supported on the G-010S-A SFP ONT assumes that the
host is operating at fixed 1G or 2.5G mode; therefore, auto-negotiation on the host is not required.
The G-010S-B ONT supports 1G mode of operation.
The G-010S-A and G-010S-B are supported on the 7360 ISAM FX shelf OLT system.

The SoC provides one GE MAC.

• Control Processor
The Control Processor core communicates with the Open Core Protocol (OCP), the Bus
Interface Unit (BIU), and an on-chip cross-connect system with other SoC modules. Instruction
and data caches are configurable at 32 kb. Each cache is organized as 4-way set associative.
The processors typically run at 400 MHz.
• Switch matrix
The Switch matrix provides an integrated data channel between the GE MAC, the GPON MAC,
the control processor, and the other integrated elements such as flash memory, DRAM, and the
local bus controller.
Package M ONTs can also interact with additional hardware components to support functionality not
provided by the SoC technology.
Single-residence Gigabit Ethernet ONTs are the only variation of Package M ONTs. These Package
M ONTs transmit Ethernet packets to one SFP port. These ONTs also feature an SFP connector to
connect directly to a residential gateway with an SFP cage.

5.13 G-010S-A and G-010S-B special considerations

G-010S-A and G-010S-B are package M ONTs.

5.13.1 Enabling or disabling the dying gasp feature

The G-010S-A and G-010S-B SFP ONTs support two software builds: one build enables the dying
gasp feature (G.984.3) on Pin 7 of the MSA interface, while the other build disables the dying gasp
feature on Pin 7.
Pin 7 of the MSA interface is re-purposed in the G-010S-A and G-010S-B ONTs to support the
mandatory G.984.3 dying gasp feature. Therefore, you need to understand your host’s compatibility
with respect to this pin before you select the dying-gasp-enabled or dying-gasp-disabled software
build.

Note: Pin 7 of the MSA interface is an optional receiver rate select input that is not applicable
to GPON standards.
The dying gasp feature requires that the host hold up the SFP ONT power rails and generate an
active low sign on Pin 7 of the MSA interface subsequent to detecting power removal to the host.
When you are using the software build with dying gasp enabled, a dying gasp is generated when
the threshold voltage on Pin 7 drops to approximately 1.47V (between 1.42V and 1.52V). When the
voltage on Pin 7 is below this threshold, three dying gasp messages will be generated and sent to
the OLT. The G-010S-A and G-010S-B SFP ONTs will continually restart while the dying gasp pin
voltage is lower than this threshold, as well as send a message to the OLT each time.
When you are using the software build with dying gasp disabled, toggling Pin 7 will have no effect
because the G.984.3 dying gasp feature will not be supported.

5.13.2 G-010S-A and G-010S-B ONT considerations and limitations

Table Table 5-17, “G-010S-A and G-010S-B ONT considerations and limitations” (p. 51) lists the
considerations and limitations for G-010S-A and G-010S-B ONTs.

Table 5-17 G-010S-A and G-010S-B ONT considerations and limitations

Considerations and limitations

DHCP is not supported on these ONTs.

When an S-CC flow coexists with a normal flow, a packet that contains a network VLAN ID of a normal flow is handled as a normal flow,
rather than an S-CC flow.

Due to hardware limitations, only 8 available T-CONTs per user flow are supported.

Due to hardware limitations, the performance counter for downstream packets does not include the 4 bytes FCS.

Due to an OLT limitation, when a multicast flow is forwarded, the outer VID is not checked. Forwarding of the multicast flow is
dependent on the group IP address and the source of the group’s flow.
