During the internship training, the intern was trained to perform the following
activities at the George and Jerry co.ltd, general orientation of the organization of
the company. Basic project writings, professional fieldwork practice, SWOT
analysis of G&J co.ltd, presentation and communication, creativity and innovation
and social media management.
During the very first day of internship, the interns were oriented by the Human
Resource Manager on two main aspects that is, a talk about George and Jerry co.ltd
and a talk about internship. The intern was told the purpose of George and Jerry
co.ltd which is enhancing infrastructural development in Cameroon. The core
value of G&J co.ltd was integrity, respect, growth, responsibility and nation
building.
On the 7th of June, the intern started the internship activities. The intern with the
help of the internship supervisor set up an internship activity table which was then
given as an activity there at the company to impute the activities into the microsoft
ware application which is seen on table 3.1 below.

activity was divided in to depart.

as for a role call to be conducted to know if everyone has evacuated the
building.
Activities carried out at the Human Resource Manager.
At the H.R office, the intern was able to learn a lot from this department since
the intern got the chance to be working with her internship supervisor who was
the H.R Manager of the company. At the Human Resource Department, intern
was shown on how materials are being managed in the company and as well
their employees and the various salary categories of workers. Intern was given
employees information to create tax payers account for each employee in the
company. The intern was shown how various employees’ issues were being
resolved by the Human Resource Manager and the procedures for out station
work for a worker needed at a construction site. Also, the intern was asked to
prepare job advert for the company and this helped intern to know the
procedure when a company has a job vacancy and what a job advert contains.
18
Activities carried out at the Accounting Department

Intern during her one month training was asked to identify the variouse
stakeholder involved in the institution she studies in (HIMS).
Positive Stakeholders
Students: they are said to be positive stakeholders of the institution because
they add to the finances of the school by paying their fees
Teachers: the teachers impact the students with knowledge which they on
their part acquire good knowledge and keep the name of the school running
Taxi drivers: they help in caring both teachers and students to school which
they receive a pay for.
School cleaners: they keep the campus clean making the surrounding pleasant
and comfortable for students and there by receiving a salary for their services.
Parents: they are also part of the stakeholder in an institution because they
have an interest that is by sending their children to this institution to go acquire
knowledge.
21
Bookshop owners: they provide the school and students with text books
needed for studies and as well gain income from the sales of these books.
Negative Stakeholders
Competitors (CUIB, HIMAT, and RIMZ): they play a negative role in that
they provide the same services which HIMS provides making it a threat to the
institution.
Government: they government impulse taxes to be paid by the institution thus
reducing their finances use in running the school.
Intern during this training was giving an assignment by her field supervisor to
show the various steps in stakeholder identification in a project
Stakeholder identification
This process is all about identifying who are the stakeholders in a project and
differentiating the internal and external stakeholders.
This has to do with knowing their interest, influence and expectations of the
stakeholders from the project.
This process deals with making a plan on how these stakeholders needs,
expectations and needs will be achieve at the end of the project.
The managing process is to ensure that these needs, interest and expectation are
attained at the end of the project.
22
Monitor stakeholder engagement
This is the last stage of stakeholder management and this is all about ensuring that
the processes are being done and monitored.
In theory, it was taught that face to face survey is more flexible than any other
method of data collection. It was the same method used to carry out data
collection in projects.
In class, it was taught that one of the ways to increase customer’s loyalty was to
provide them with good quality work and at affordable prices. This was the
practical in George and Jerry where their services were highly demanded due to
their good quality outcomes they offered their clients.
3.3.2 Differences
Following the one month training program which intern carried out in G&J, intern
found out theory is quite different from practical. This is so because what intern
23
was taught in class intern wasn’t able to implement. There were situation in which
intern fine difficulties in allocating resources to the right departments when intern
was being asked by my internship supervisor.
In theory you only get to learn on paper without actually implementing all
what you learn in to practice. It can also be said that with only theory without
practical’s one won’t have the skills to work in any organization. So working with
one without the other won’t give you a high chance to be an expert in to the job
market.
In class, it was taught that one of the ways to increase customer’s loyalty was
to provide them with good quality work and at affordable prices. This was the
practical in George and Jerry where their services were highly demanded due to
their good quality outcomes they offered their clients.
24
CHAPTER FOUR
The organization does not have a project management department to handle the
planning, scheduling, controlling, budgeting and monitoring of the Company’s
25
project so as to avoid extra cost or waste of resources. This makes it a
weakness for the organization because a construction project manager and
department are essential for every construction company for it to run smoothly
and effectively.
ORGANISATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
The company also has sub branch offices around the country, thereby
making them having a greater dominance in the building construction
company, and can still survive efficiently even if one goes down. The
organization has shares in various banks.
26
productive and secured forums with its many services and help it gives its
affiliates.
ORGANISATIONAL THREATS
The intern was able to know how to be creative and innovative and also know
that there are the backbone of the organization, which is and aspect that make
the organization to stay long in the business.
The intern was able to know how to carry out SWOT analysis of the company.
The intern was able to know how to do data collection in the field during
practical work. The intern also learned the various skills in data collection such
as communication skills.
One of the problems faced during the internship was the noisy atmosphere
since the organization was located by the roadside. This hinders the intern
from concentrating.
Limited time to study which was caused by the too many shift of the
internship training
27
Poor weather. The intern did the internship during the rainy season in
Cameroon and due to this some internship activities were disturb such as
data collection.
The intern had a problem of distance couple with the fact that traffic is
sometimes so high in Buea, thus this makes the intern to come late
sometimes.
28
CHAPTER FIVE
5.1 Recommendations
It will be efficient if George and Jerry co.ltd should increase its number of
personnels so as to make the management and training activity efficient.
The intern thought it wise that George and Jerry co.ltd should look for a
location with quiet atmosphere for the organization rather than at the
roadside where there is too much noise. This will increase the level of
concentration during working hours.
More so the organization should buy more equipment needed for the training
such as computers, photocopy machines, internet storage box, to be more
effective and efficient.
5.2 CONCLUSION
To conclude, the intern thinks that if the above recommendations are taken in to
consideration, George and Jerry co.ltd will be the best building construction
company in Cameroon, and thus will help to increase Cameroonians Human
Capital thereby increasing economic growth in Cameroon.
