Meditation: The Foundation For The Sutras

The Mantra Meditation

You are learning mantra meditation in this course. A mantra is a powerful seed syllable or
word or phrase that is heard internally.

As you hear it inside your head, it creates a vibration that connects you to spirit and
expands your consciousness so you can enter into deeper levels of awareness, and
eventually into the field of pure consciousness.

Entering the “gap”.

Many people think the purpose of meditation is to tune out your thoughts. That couldn’t be
further from the truth—it’s actually to tune into the very deepest part of you.

Meditation takes you into the “gap.”

There’s a tiny microscopic gap between your thoughts.

A mantra makes it possible for you to slip through the “gap” between your thoughts, and
thus enter a vast field of pure consciousness, silence, and peace.

Many words have been given to that space, such as God or Spirit.

Clearing Trauma

One of the main things that happens when you meditate and do the sutra practice is it
helps your body clear stuff that’s stored in it—negative emotions that you've blocked or
pushed down.

Don’t feel bad about experiencing any discomfort during or especially at the end of a
meditation. Just realize that’s the way it processes out.

The first nine sutras, which you now have seeded within you, clear psychic and physical
trauma.

Don’t worry if you experience any physical or emotional discomfort during or after your
practice; that’s very common, especially in the beginning.

Just realize that is the release of stress.

If you have pain in your body, allow yourself to actually feel the pain instead of pushing it
away. You’re getting in touch with your body.

You're on a path that can lead to very profound changes not only in your consciousness,
but also in your physical and emotional health.

Am I Doing It Right?

When you sit to meditate, you can run into outer and inner distractions.

If you meditate at home, your family members need to know not to disturb you.

Put a “do not disturb” sign on your door, silence your phone and your laptop.

Make sure there are no children or pets in the room with you as they will take all that great
energy you generate doing your practice.

Inner distractions are your thoughts. The thought of “I’m making a mistake” is simply
another thought. Go back to doing your mantra.

If you find that you fall asleep while meditating, that’s fine. Your body needs the rest.

Allow it.

There are times when you are releasing so much stress that you’ll have to lie down to
clear your nervous system. It’s all okay.

Go from the meditative state into the sleep state, but when you wake up—it might be five
minutes, it might be a whole hour—meditate for five or ten minutes because your nervous
system will have reached a point of clearing where the mantra can sink in more deeply.
