MY LEARNING TAKEAWAYS

 Constructivism is rooted from Jean Piaget's theory, which is the Cognitive Development
Theory and Lev Vygotsky's theory, which is the Socio-Cultural Theory.
 Constructivism is more of a "top-down" than a "bottom-up". This means that the students
or the learners are the ones to analyze every detail that is given to them, without the help
of others (if possible).
 Constructivism gives the students the chance to be creative on how they can approach an
information given to them, and how can they understand and analyze it. The knowledge is
constructed, and the learners are the active creators.
 Another main contributor for constructivism is the Espoused Theory, which is presented and
researched by Argyris and Schon. This theory states that people knew the difference
between right and wrong, and by that, they will be able to make decisions or construct
things that they know their can benefit from for the better.
 Metacognition and Constructivism are linked to each other because of the metamemory or
the ability to retain information or output in someone's memory.
 Constructivism is equal to discovery learning. Learners are the ones to learn and discover
things and information on their own.
 Structured knowledge should be straight and simple so that the learners won't have a
difficult time discovery something on their own.
 There are Five (5) School of Constructivism and these are the: 1) Trivial (Cognitive)
Constructivism, 2) Radical Constructivism, 3) Social Constructivism, 4) Cultural
Constructivism, and lastly 5) Critical Constructivism.
 If knowing the internal processes of the learner is absent, then we must focus on the
external which is the behavior of the learner.
 Currently, constructivism is the most supported approach in language learning.
 Principles of Constructivist Learning are ways on how a learner can effectively learn a
language through constructivism. These principles help learners to become more creative
and motivated on how they will take tasks or information all by themselves.
 Constructivism = constructing knowledge, analyzing and thinking, understanding and
applying, and not being passive (just absorbing information).
 Constructivist Approach on language learning is action oriented.
 The roles of the teacher in constructivism are: 1) to be one of the many resources of the
students, 2) be the reason on why students need to engage in challenging tasks, 3)
encourage students and lastly, 4) be the facilitator.
 Constructivism has its own limitations and problems in language learning. However, it is a
great help to support language learning because it helps students to be creative.
