The evaluation of solid waste management practices among senior high school students typically
involves assessing their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to waste disposal, recycling, and
sustainability. This evaluation often includes surveys, interviews, or observations to gauge students’
understanding of waste management concepts, their participation in recycling programs, and their
willingness to adopt environmentally friendly practices. The findings from such evaluations can inform
educational initiatives and policy decisions aimed at promoting better waste management practices
among youth. The assessment of senior high school students solid waste management practices includes
evaluating their attitudes, behaviors, and knowledge about recycling, sustainability, and garbage
disposal. Students comprehension of waste management concepts, their desire to take part in waste
reduction programs, and their actual participation in recycling and proper trash disposal are all examined
as part of this evaluation. By assessing these factors, educators and legislators may pinpoint areas where
waste management education needs to be strengthened and provide focused interventions to
encourage high school students to adopt sustainable lifestyles, supporting environmental preservation
initiatives.

Solid waste management awareness and practices

According Molina and Cata (2021),Solid waste management is one of the challenges confronted
by numerous nations. Destitute strong squander administration will lead to different issues in wellbeing,
environment and socio-economic viewpoints. Since, instructive institution is an operator of alter and
through R.A. No. 9003, solid waste management concepts are being coordinates in science instruction. In
this ponder, graphic – quantitative approach was utilized utilizing the analyst made instrument – Strong
Squander Administration Mindfulness and Hones Survey (SWMAPQ). A add up to of 332 Review 12
understudies taken part within the think about from a State College, of which 68 are Science, Innovation,
Designing and Arithmetic (STEM) understudies, 166 are Specialized Professional Business (TVL)
understudies and 98 are Common Scholastic Strand (GAS) understudies. Result appears that
understudies have sufficient information in terms on definition of strong squander, impact of
inappropriate strong squander transfer, strong squander precluded exercises, school activities towards
strong squander, significance of solid waste management and students’ duties.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices on solid waste management

According Lapie and Delacruz (2016),In order to gather information on solid waste management
(SWM), a cross-sectional survey was carried out on 2,528 undergraduate students who were enrolled in
the second semester of the academic year 2015–16 at Laguna State Polytechnic University–Los Baños
Campus (LSPU-LBC). Less than half (43.1%) of the students demonstrated a satisfactory practice level,
despite the majority (73.4%) and (71.0%) having satisfactory knowledge and attitudes on SWM-related
topics. Similarly, the students’ lower average practice rating (72.5%) did not align with their considerably
higher average ratings for knowledge (87.8%) and attitude (87.0%). Just half (55%) of the participants
received satisfactory KAP ratings, with an average KAP rating of 82.3%. Students’ practice evaluation was
strongly predicted by the interaction effect of knowledge and attitude ratings (r2= 0.11; P<0.005). The
average KAP of the pupils.

Socio-behavioral assessment of household solid

According to Reyes (2023),The cycle of garbage creation, separation, elimination, and reclamation

is heavily reliant on human activity variations and the degree of knowledge surrounding solid waste
management (SWM). In order to close the intention-action gap among SWM stakeholders, this study
offers the first socio-behavioral assessment that focuses on households in a Philippine metropolis. It
does this by urging socio-behavioral change communication efforts through the trials of improved
practices (TIPs). The results highlight women’s active involvement in SWM activities and show how much
they contribute to household waste management duties. Analysis of committed and completed short-
and long-term actions showed that families were willing to implement sustainable waste management
techniques.

Assessment of solid waste Management

According to Dahlawi and Mahmoud (2021) ,Paper and cardboard are among the many
recyclable items that make up municipal solid waste (MSW). The offices and cafeterias within
educational institutions, particularly universities, produce a lot of MSW. The environment may suffer
from solid waste if there is no efficient management scheme in place. The purpose of this essay is to
evaluate the solid waste management procedures used at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University’s
(IAU) main campus in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Design/methodology/approach: During a full academic
term (January to May), at least a couple of times MSW samples were collected from various locations on
the IAU campus, including the college buildings (such as the teaching rooms and staff offices), the
administrative buildings, and the service buildings (such as the main library, the photocopying center, the
restaurant, and the cafeteria).
Raising awareness on solid waste management through formal education for sustainability

According to Debrat and Vidal (2021),The issue of solid waste management (SWM) is complex
and involves elements of politics, socioeconomics, institutions, and the environment. metropolitan
spaces in emerging countries are facing a major difficulty due to exponential increase in metropolitan
areas. The disparity in environmental awareness between young and old people in developing nations
causes problems with waste management and ecology, which leads to unsustainable development and
has serious repercussions in low-income nations. In addition, a systematic review was carried out with
the goal of locating and evaluating studies on SWM from 2010 to 2019 in developing nations that
examined environmental knowledge, awareness, attitudes, and practices. The data indicates that
although secondary and university students are well aware of environmental issues and have favorable
attitudes toward the environment, there is a dearth of practical.

Environment suitable impact of solid waste management

According to Abukar and Maniruzzaman (2022) ,One of the most important duties of municipal
managers is solid waste management (SWM), which also serves as a useful stand-in for excellent
administration. SWM that is effective reduces negative effects on the environment and human health,
saves resources, and makes cities more livable. However, poor SWM practices have a detrimental effect
on environmental sustainability and public health. This effect is compounded by fast urbanization as well
as institutional and financial constraints. The review paper evaluates the effects of SWM practices on
human and environmental health in the cities of the Global South, which are the cities of the future of
global urbanization. The study uses a desktop research methodology built on a thorough examination of
secondary data and literature, such as published articles and official documents. It discovers that during
storage and processing, hazardous waste is frequently mixed with regular residential and business waste.

Comclusion

The study evaluates senior high school students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding
waste disposal, recycling, and sustainability. It helps inform educational initiatives and policy decisions,
identifying areas for improvement. The study focuses on households in a Philippine metropolis and
encourages socio-behavioral change communication through trial trials of improved practices,
highlighting the importance of human activity variations and knowledge surrounding solid waste
management.

Synthesis
Understanding senior high school solid waste management practices is crucial for understand
their environmental impact and pinpointing areas that want improvement. Numerous criteria, such as
waste creation rates, segregation techniques, collection efficiency, and disposal methods, should be
taken into account in a thorough study. Schools can create efficient plans to lower trash production, raise
recycling rates, and encourage sustainable activities by examining these variables.

Additionally, schools can foster a cleaner, healthier environment for staff and students as well as
comply with environmental standards by assessing the efficacy of their present solid waste management
strategies. Enhancing awareness and engagement in waste management programmes can also be
achieved through the implementation of a systematic evaluation process that engages stakeholders,
including instructors, custodial staff, and students.
