Why Vocabulary Assignments?

“Without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be
conveyed.'

If you spend most of your time studying grammar, your English will not improve very much.
You will see most improvement if you learn more words and expressions. You can say very
little with grammar, but you can say almost anything with words!

What does it mean to “know” a word?

Knowing a word means:

· having the ability to recognize it in its spoken and written forms.
· knowing its different meanings.
· knowing its part of speech (e.g. a noun, a verb, an adjective, an adverb)
· being able to pronounce it properly
· being able to use it correctly within a sentence in an appropriate grammatical form
· being able to recognize different types of English e.g. boot/trunk, lift/elevator
(British/American).

In order to be good at learning English words, you need to

 create a personal connection with words.
 see, hear and feel the words as much as possible.
 be actively involved in the learning of words with different tasks and
techniques.

Therefore, it is very important for you to revise the new words you have learnt in each unit
and complete your vocabulary assignments.

F. Use the correct form of the word in brackets to complete the text.
Ways Personality Contributes to Job Success

Most employers take personality into account at least as much as they consider a
candidate's skill-based qualifications. This is because his or her skills will 1 certainly
(CERTAIN) affect how that individual does the job or what he or she is qualified to do. In
2.addition (ADD) the personality will affect everyone else in the office.

Personality 3.undoubtedly (DOUBT) affects how a candidate will act in social interactions at
work. Great teams work together productively and communicate efficiently, and this
helps to get higher job satisfaction. Personality also influences an individual's job
performance in different ways; however, sometimes individual motivation may
4.depend (DEPEND) more on job responsibilities and promotions to higher levels of
5.leadership (LEADER) in the organization.

How Qualifications Affect Employee's Career

Most employers will be interested in CVs and a candidate's 6. professional (PROFESSION)

background, but studies show that many employers want individuals that they would like to
work with. Besides, each employer is different and will have individual beliefs on what they
consider to be the ideal candidate.

When interviewing, candidates should be prepared to answer both technical questions

about their field as well as questions 7. related (RELATE) to their character and personality.
Employers are trying to find a good worker for their company culture, not just a talented
individual. Many organizations, on the other hand, provide skills training for the candidates.
Employees are much more likely to be successful and productive if they are not only
8.pleased (PLEASE) with their jobs, but also with their coworkers.

Search Employment Professionals for Staffing Solutions

When searching potential job candidates, it is 9.critical (CRITIC) to remember that while
skills can change or develop, personality is largely unchangeable. A candidate's personality
will also affect workplace productivity. Thus, employers should have accuracy when deciding
the personality type that is 10.required (REQUIRE) for the job; it would be bad to make a
mistake. Staffing agencies can be 11. valuable (VALUE) resources when it comes to
recruitment of 12. acceptable (ACCEPT) candidates and these employment professionals
direct the match of business needs and top candidates.

One of the most important stages in most people’s lives starts when they finish high school.
They have the challenging task of choosing a university. When looking for the right university,
people should consider many different aspects 1. __logically__ (LOGICAL) before making a
decision. Some might say deciding on a department plays a bigger role in a person’s future

numerous trainings on effective management skills and has
3.____established__(ESTABLISHMENT) good relationships with team members. But still, he
probably got his first lessons when he was a university student. So, whether your aim is to be a
CEO or not, for lifelong success, you must choose a university which will teach you to be an

process on the very first day you arrive on the campus. Otherwise, you might lose the
opportunity to start your new life as an active member of the changing world.

Rewarding children
Giving children money is a common form of 1 ____motivation___ (MOTIVATE) used by

parents feel that money will motivate their child, then they should not be condemned for
operating a system of cash payouts.

lot of money to go to university and have trouble paying it back. Fortunately, your university may
offer you a scholarship, which 6.__removes___ (REMOVE) much of the cost. However, you
should find a university you can afford.

populations, and costs. It’s important to find one that employs good professors, 7.__contains__
(CONTAIN) a comfortable campus, and is affordable. To make the right choice, students need all
the support and 8.__encouragement__ (ENCOURAGE) they can get from their families and
friends. Sometimes this may put pressure on students. Therefore, they may need to see a/an

How Can I Contribute As a Member of a Group?

Being a member of a group can be an incredibly amazing experience and provide lots of
benefits. It’s motivating to 1. ______belong___(BELONG) to a group because people feel
more secure when they know that they have others around them. When we look to joining a
group, we typically ask ourselves what this group will do for us. Why should I join this group?
Will it give me what I need? What are the 2.__requirements_ (REQUIRE) of being a member
of this group? However, it is also important to ask yourself what you can bring to the group.

When you decide to become a member of a group, you must remember that you are
developing a 3.___relationship__(RELATION) with the members of the group. In that sense,
you generally expect to gain something personally from the group, but you should also be
willing to be 4._supportive__ (SUPPORT) in the group. You will not get the full benefits of
the group and cannot truly be a member of the group as long as you are not 5.
___reluctant___ (RELUCTANT) to contribute to the group.

So what can you bring to the group? First, you need to be completely there mentally. That
means, when you meet the group, you should have an 6.___interaction__(INTERACT) with
other members rather than sitting there quietly and not engaging in any conversation. It’s
also very significant to 7.___attend__ (ATTEND) the group meetings regularly. If you do not
make the physical commitment to be there, the group will not consider you a true member
of the group and there will be 8.__complaints_ (COMPLAIN) about your participation.

Think about what other skills you possess, whether it is in your personal life or your
professional life. You do not have to make a heroic effort. For instance, if you are
9.__persuasive_ (PERSUADE) and like thinking up new things to do, then you can run a
brainstorming session and actively throw out ideas to the group. As the members of the
group may have different points of view, it’s inevitable to have heated 10.
____arguments____ (ARGUE) in the group. If you have good problem-solving skills, you can
help them to calm down and negotiate. Perhaps you are a great cook. You could make some
tasty appetizers for the group during the meetings, or run a wine tasting event to relax your
group members during one of the meetings.

You may not have any particularly special skills which would be
11.__disappointing__ (DISAPPOINT) for the group. However, simply being a good talker or a
good listener can be a solution. Being a good talker means that you can actively participate
in the conversation and 12. ___express___ (EXPRESS) his opinions in an effective way. Being
a good listener means that you will really hear what each person is saying and can respond
accordingly, which is the recipe for a successful and enjoyable conversation.
