A Million Tourists Are Set To Flock To Madison This Weekend For The 17th Annual
Pancake Festival

The Madison Pancake Festival, which is held this weekend, is a yearly celebration of
community, food, and music that draws hundreds of thousands of tourists to the small town of
only 3,200. With a variety of pancake vendors, live music, specialty prizes and local craftsmen,
the festival is the perfect weekend activity for friends, families and foodies alike.

All work is done by Madison community volunteers from churches, schools, local businesses,
city hall, and even the local prison who come together to organize this massive two day
pancake-themed event. Last year, the festival drew in nearly one million tourists, and organizers
are anticipating an even better turnout this year. The festival is co-sponsored by the Betterment
Association of the Madison Area Inc. and the Madison Area Jaycees and is completely nonprofit,
with the revenue being directly reinvested in the community. In previous years, the earnings have
been used for park improvements, as donations to the Madison Volunteer Fire Department and
Gateway Ambulance Service, and as scholarships for local high school students.

Activities will include: made-to-order pancake plates from 7am-9pm, live country music,
including performances by singer Lionel Cartwright on Sunday at 1:00pm and 3:00pm, over 100
local crafts booths, ticket raffles for a 16-foot boat, trailer and 45 HP outboard-motor, carnival
rides, and a wide variety of other food and drink vendors. Alongside the festival, the city of
Madison also offers swimming, hiking, horseback rides, boat tours, plane rides, antique
shopping, and a massive flea market that visitors are encouraged to participate in for $10 a table.

In order to accommodate this influx of tourists, Madison has campgrounds, motels, and an RV
park for only a modest fee. Visitors are also welcome to come by plane as the local airport has a
2400-foot runway. There is no charge for landing and qualified volunteers will handle plane
parking.
