1. 4 Bells toll together at 9.00 am. They toll after 7, 8, 11 and 12 seconds respectively. How many 1
times will they toll together again in the next 3 hours?
(a) 3 (b) 4
(c) 5 (d) 6

Ans : (c) LCM of 7, 8, 11, 12 = 1848

∴ Bells will toll together after every 1848 sec.
∴ In next 3 hrs, number of times the bells will toll together = = 5.84
⇒ 5 times.

2. What is the HCF of smallest prime number and the smallest composite number? [CBSE 1
2018]

Ans : The smallest prime number = 2

The smallest composite number = 4

∴ HCF of 2 and 4 = 2

3. If one of the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial (k – 1)x2 + kx + 1 is –3, then the value of k is 1

Ans : (a) (k – 1)x2 + kx + 1

One zero is – 3, so it must satisfy the equation and make it zero.
∴ (k – 1) (– 3)2 + k(– 3) + 1 = 0
⇒ 9k – 9 – 3k + 1 = 0
⇒ 6k – 8 = 0

4. If zeroes of p(x) = 2x2 – 7x + k are reciprocal of each other, then value of k is __________. 1

Ans :

5. Find HCF and LCM of 26676 and 337554 using fundamental theorem of arithmetic. 2
Ans : 26676 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 13 × 19
337554 = 2 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 7 × 19 × 47
HCF = 2 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 19 = 1026
LCM = 22 × 33 × 13 × 19 × 7 × 47 = 8776404

6. Find the zeroes of p(x) = 100x2 – 81 quadratic polynomials and verify the relationship between 2
the zeroes and their coefficients.

Ans : p(x) = 100x2 – 81

For zeroes, p(x) = 0
100x2 – 81 = 0 (10x)2 – (9)2 = 0
(10x – 9) (10x + 9) = 0 10x – 9 = 0 or 10x + 9 = 0
x= or x =
Now a = 100, b = 0, c = –81

Sum of zeroes =

Sum of zeroes =

Also

Product of zeroes =

Product of zeroes =

Prove that is irrational. 3

Ans : Let , where a and b are coprime integers, b ≠ 0.

Squaring both sides, we get 3 = .

Multiplying with b on both sides, we get

LHS = 3 × b = Integer
RHS = = Rational number
LHS ≠ RHS
Our supposition is wrong.
is irrational.

8. To enhance the reading skills of grade X students, the school nominates you and two of your 4
friends to set up a class library. There are two sections- section A and section B of grade X. There
are 32 students in section A and 36 students in section B.
(i) What is the minimum number of books you will acquire for the class library, so that they can be
distributed equally among students of section A or section B?

(ii) Express 36 as a product of its primes.

(iii) If there are 36 students in section A and 44 students in section B, what is minimum number of
books you will acquire for the class library so that they can be distributed equally among students
of section A or B.

OR

Find HCF of 32, 36 and 44.

Ans : (i) With the help of LCM (32, 36);

Minimum no. of books = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 = 288

(ii) 36 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 = 22 × 33

(iii) 36 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3

44 = 2 × 2 × 11

LCM (36, 44) = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 11 = 396

OR

32 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2

36 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3

44 = 2 × 2 × 11

HCF (32, 36, 44) = 2 × 2 = 4

9. The below picture are few examples of natural parabolic which is represented by a quadratic 4
polynomial. A parabolic arch is an arch in the shape of a parabola. In structures, their curve
represents an efficient method of load, and so can be found in bridges and in architecture in a
variety of forms.
(i) If a and are the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 2x2 – x + 8k, then find the value of k.

(ii) Find the sum of zeroes of p(x) = kx2 – kx + 5.

(iii) Write a quadratic polynomial whose one zero is 4 and product of zeroes is 0.

OR
Find the zeroes of p(x) = x2 – 7x + 12

2
Ans : (i) Let p(x) = 2x – x + 8k

So, a = 2; b = – 1; c = 8k

Product of zeroes =

(ii) p(x) = kx2 – kx + 5

Here a = k, b = –k

How sum of zeroes =

(iii) Let other zero is k.

Product of zeroes = 0

4×k=0

k=0

Sum of zeroes = 4 + 0 = 4

p(x) = x2 – (sum of zeroes)x + Product of zeroes

p (x ) = x 2 – 4 x + 0 = x 2 – 4 x

OR

For zeroes of p(x),

2
x – 7x + 12 = 0

x2 – 3x – 4x + 12 = 0

(x – 3)(x – 4) = 0

x = 3, 4.

10. 4
An asana is a body posture, originally and still a general term for a sitting meditation pose, and later extended in

hatha yoga and modern yoga as exercise, to any type of pose or position, adding reclining, standing, inverted,
twisting, and balancing poses. In the figure, one can observe that poses can be related to representation of

quadratic polynomial.
