Noli Me Tangere

Jose Rizal

1887

480 pages

Novel, Historical Fiction, Satire

Noli Me Tangere is a great novel written by Dr. Jose Rizal.

A passionate love story that set against the political torture,

repression and murder. This story was begun when Crisostomo

Ibarra fell in love with Maria Clara. The novel explores the

social and political issues of nineteenth-century Philippine

society, highlighting the oppressive rule of the Spanish friars

and the need for liberal reformism.

Noli Me Tangere by Jose Rizal encourages us to consider the

views and deeds we do for our nation. The novel's themes of

accepting change in ourselves and advancing nationalism are still

relevant today. We should support our nation by upholding the

law, fostering Philippine culture, and understanding its actual

purpose by cooperating to make it better. It imparts wisdom, the

virtues of standing up for what is right, and love for our

nation. This book is taught in schools to help students learn to

love their nation and become change factor, so that history won't

be repeated and they can go on to become successful citizens.

Jose Rizal wants us to be authentic Filipinos; only by

understanding who we are and what our actual aspirations we can

bring prosperity to our nation.

I will recommend this novel because It is a literary

masterpiece that indirectly contributed to the development of a

united sense of national identity among Filipinos.
