Song Story: The Little Old Lady who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything
This Orff lesson is used to teach students how instruments can be used to create a motif for a
character! (Leitmotifs)

1. Make rules set in the classroom by students repeating them:

I will make Music, not noise
I will Not hurt my instrument
I will ONLY PLAY when Miss D cues me in!
2. Introduce the instruments one at a time, showing proper playing and asking them what
bad technique is by showing them!

Tone Block
Shaker
Rhythm Sticks
Hand Drums
“Boo!” Sound with their voice!
Body Perc: Clap, Rub Hands, pat floor or lap is also all acceptable!

3. Read the Story, as each part of the scare crow is introduced have them stop and decide on
an instrument!
