Grade 5: Skip to my Lou (Outline)

Sixteenth Note Figure: “_+a”

1: Sing the song! Repeat each line by having students echo me

2: “Skip to My”… Ask: What rhythm is this?


Have students pat out the rhythm while singing to let them figure it out

3: Once students finally understand song, teach the play party!


- Promenade form
“Lost my partner what’ll I do” stop and search for a new partner
“Ill find another one just like you” get into new form with new partner
Restart once we get back to the main phrase!

WA 7: Bolero
Triplet Figure

1: Talk about Spain, where Bolero was influenced by!


2: Show them a triplet by patting it out, give them the “Triple-te-ta” Rhythm
3: Provide the phrase of Bolero: 1 123, 1, 123 - 1, 123 123, 1
By patting it out and going slow
4: have them play along to Bolero on their laps, have them sway their bodies on 1 and 3!
