ADVANCED REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN

UNIT-3
1) Design a simply supported square slab of side 4m to support a service load of
4Kn/m2
2) Determine the permissible service load for a simply supported hexagonal slab of
side 4.5 m which is isotropically reinforced with 10mm bars @ 100mm centre to
centre. The slab is 150 mm thick with a clear cover of 20 mm. use M 20 concrete
and Fe 415 steel.
3) Determine the permissible service load of a simply supported circular slab of
slab of radius 3 m and reinforced with 10 mm diameter bars @150 mm c/c. the
overall depth of slab is 130 mm and effective cover is 25 mm. Use M20 concrete
and Fe 415 steel.
4) Determine the location of the plastic hinges and the collapse load for a one way
continuous slab of span 6 m if the ultimate moment capacities at the ends (-ve
moment) are 20 kNm and 25 kNm. The maximum +ve ultimate moment capacity
is 22 kNm.
5) Determine the permissible service load for a rectangular slab of size 4mx6m. and
depth as 150 mm which is simply supported on all sides and is reinforced with 10
mm bars @ 150 mm c/c in shorter direction and 10 mm bars @ 200 mm c/c in
longer direction. Take effective cover as 25 mm and use M20 concrete and Fe 415
steel.
6) Define the following terms:
(i) Panel (ii) Flat slab
(iii) Drop (iv) Column head
7) What are the methods of design of flat slabs.
8) Explain the limitations of Direct Design method of analysing flat slabs.
9) What are the assumptions of equivalent frame method?
10) Design an interior panel of a flat slab for a live load of 5kN/m^2.The slab is
provided with a floor finish of 1kN / (m ^ 2). The panels are 4mx4m. Drops shall
be provided. Use M20 concrete and Fe 415 steel.
11) Design an interior panel of a flat slab with following data
i. Size of Panel=5mx5m
ii. Live load=4KN/m^2
iii. Size of column=500mm diameter
Use M20 Concrete and Fe415 HYSD bars. Drops are to be Provided.
