Chicken Coop Activity

The Problem:
The school is in need of new desks and the school does not have a budget for the
desks.
Design:
 First draw the sketch of the nesting structure
 Materials and tools needed for the nesting structure:
1. Wood dresser drawers
2. Screws
3. Paint
4. Paint brush
5. Screwdriver
 Instructions:
1. Find the right spot in the chicken coop to create a nesting structure
2. One drawer will be needed to be a nesting box for every 2 to 3 hens
3. The nesting structure should be large enough for the chickens to stand up
without having to hit the ceiling (16 x 16 x 16 inches)
4. Use the screws and screwdriver to connect the wood dresser drawers into
a shelf so that the chickens do not fall when they are in the nesting
structure (the screws and screwdriver will be used to create stable nesting
structure)
5. Use the pain and paint brush to make the wood dresser drawers more
colourful and attractive
6. Put some hay in each nesting structure
Evaluating:
After sharing our ideas with other people, we made a few changes:
 We made measurement changes because the first measurement was not big
enough for the chickens to be comfortable
Communicating:
We had a problem at the beginning of the design plan with regards to finding suitable
materials to create a stable and comfortable nesting structure. We also had a
problem with finding the correct measurement that is suitable to cater to six hens and
a problem with making the nesting structure.
