Lesson 3: PLANT TISSUE AND CELL CULTURE AND
INTRODUCTION OF BASIC LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

* Table describing the morphological characteristics of colonies for each type of

microorganisms
Shape Diameter Color Odor
Bacteria Usually in the Usually ranges There are No ordor
form of a in size from many colors:

* Results of counting the total number of CFU/ agar plate
- Hansens: 25
- Gzapeck: 62
- MPA: 112
- Gause I: 69
* The number of CFU/ agar must be > 25 and < 250 because: Counts above 250
are considered too numerous to count and it is difficult as well as time-consuming to
distinguish the individual colonies on a plate because it is impossible to tell whether
colonies are separated. Plates with less than 25 colonies, the count may not be
accurate and do not have a statistically significant number of colonies.
