GRADE 9-REVIEWER

CIVIL SOCIETY -is the aggregate of non Governmental Organization and institutions that
manifest will and interest of the citizens.

CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATION - is a group of people which operates in the community in a


way that is distinct from both Government and Business.

HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS/ORGANIZATION -people or groups that help the abused


secure justice.

COALITIONS AND NETWORK- organization that promote the rights of the women, children
and environment.

PWD AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES ORGANIZATIONS- groups that are advocate equal
treatment of people with disabilities or in capacities.

COMMUNITY-BASED GROUPS- organizations that support the cause of indigenous peoples


and minorities who must often the subject of abuse or discrimination.

FAITH-BASED GROUPS - Churches or religious groups that promote positive values and
traditions.

UNIONS- trade groups, as well as a professional associations, such as journalists, magistrates,


or student unions that fight for the truth and criticize irregularities in the Government.

SOCIAL MOVEMENTS- movements that advocate freedom and equality among men and
women; examples are peace, student, or pro-democracy movements.

PROFESSIONALS - humanitarian workers, lawyers, doctors, and medical workers, or other


people contributing directly to the enjoyment of human rights.

SUCCESS INDICATOR OF CIVIL SOCIETY

SOCIAL JUSTICE -the equality of rights for all people to benefit in terms of the distribution of
wealth, opportunities, and privileges.

ECONOMIC VIABILITY-the capacity to establish a stable economy through provisions for


livelihood programs and support for entrepreneurs.

VOLUNTEERISM - the active involvement of citizens in civil society undertakings. One example
is joining outreach activities and social works by one's own will.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP- the initiatives undertaken to having sustainable


environment. An example would be vigilance toward illegal logging and adherence to the city
ordinance on the regulated use of plastic.
