I. Objectives:

A. Content Standard
The learner salient features of the arts and crafts of Southern Tagalog Islands and
the Visayas Group of Islands showing the relationships of the elements of art and process among
culturally diverse communities in the country.
B. Performance Standard
The learner creates artworks showing the characteristics and elements of the arts of
Luzon Island provinces and Visayas.
C. Learning Competencies: At the end of the lesson the students must have:
1. define the arts and crafts of MIMAROPA and Visayas;
2. name the selected arts and crafts from MIMAROPA And Visayas; and
3. identify the arts and crafts in specific areas of MIMAROPA and Visayas.

A. Content: The Arts and Crafts of MIMAROPA and Visayas.

Motivation:

Reviewing previous lesson:
Before we proceed to our today’s topic, may I ask
you if what we did yesterday?
We draw healthy foods!
Ok, you draw healthy foods like fruits, vegetables,
milk, grains,etc.

And is it necessary to eat those? Yes!

Why?

Correct! Eating healthy foods may protect us from


diseases and it will makes our body glowing and For us to be healthy and away from
stronger. diseases!

Lesson Proper:
Our topic for today is all about the arts and crafts of
MIMAROPA and Visayas.

MIMAROPA region is located in Luzon and


MIMAROPA stands for what provinces? Yes
Nichole?

MIMAROPA stands for Mindoro, Marinduque,


You are correct Nichole! Romblon, and Palawan province.

Now let’s go to Mindoro, They have this known

arts/craft called Ambahan. Are you familiar with
this?
Yes ma’am! The bookmark with ambahan script
that we did last week.
Yes you got it class! And ambahan is presented
through recitation and chanting without a
determined musical pitch or accompaniment.

Next, they also have this Iraya Mangyan basket or


nito weaving that made from nito grass. The Iraya (watching the image in powerpoint presentation)
Mangyan basket has intricate patterns and designs
of humans, animals, trees, and other objects.

Now let proceed to Marinduque province. In


marinduque they have this art/craft called Morion.
Any idea about morion? Yes Jane? You are raising Morion is a mask. People who act as roman
your hand.
soldiers during Moriones festival wear these mask.

Very good Jane! And they wear these masks


together with the vest, capes and wooden shield.

Next, in Romblon province, they are known for
their fine marble products like mortar and pestle,
souvenir, and religious icons.
Tingkop ma’am is a harvest basket.
And Palawan province. The known arts/crafts in
Palawan are Tingkop and Manunggul Jar.
Any idea what is tingkop? Yes Melvin?
The manunggul jar ma’am is a burial jar.
Correct! Very good Melvin!

How about Manunggul Jar? Yes Verlyn?

Excellent Verlyn! It is served as a container for the


dug up remains of the dead and it is made from
clay and the upper portion of the jar as well as the
cover, is carved with curvilinear scroll designs and
painted with natural iron or hematite.

Now let’s go to Visayas region known arts and


crafts. In Negros they have Sinamay woven product Patadyong ma’aam
that made from abaca twine.

And in Panay Island, do you know what is the


known arts/craft ?
Ok Princess?

Very good Princess! Patadyong. It is a wrap


around piece of cloth worn by women a skirt paired
with kimono.

And, Basey Samar. The banig capital of the


Philipines. Their banig arts/ craft product is made
from tikog, a reed grass that usually grows in
swampy areas. And the colorful banig are more
expensive than the simple one.
Summary

So again, what are the arts and craft from


MIMAROPA Region?
Nito weaving, ambahan, morion, marble, tingkop,
How about the arts and crafts from Visayas? and manunggul jar!

Sinamay, patadyong, banig!
The arts and crafts of MIMAROPA and Visayas
are combination of artistic forms from the
indigenous people that reside in the region. Most of
their crafts are made from materials abundant in
their areas with designs and aesthetics that
represent their community.

V. Evaluation:
Get ¼ sheet of paper and for numbers 1-3. identify the following arts and crafts through its characteristic.
And for number 4-6 . identify the picture and give its specific province. ( showing the evaluation test
through powerpoint presentation)
1. A native tube wrap around piece of cloth and worn by women as a skirt and features geometric
designs. Answer: patadyong

2. Traditional poetry of Mangyans in Mindoro and it is presented through recitation and chanting . answer:
ambahan

3. Refers to the masks that are made of wood or papier mâché. Answer: morion

4. answer: nito weaving- Mindoro

5. answer: manunggul jar- Palawan

6. answer: banig- Basey, Samar
