1. Comprehension inference strategy - Used during or after reading, but for my class I use it mainly as we read. Using
explicit instruction will help students learn to recognize inferences they make about their reading. The following four
questions will help facilitate learning for inferences. “What is my inference? What information did I use to make this
inference? How good was my thinking? Do I need to change my thinking?” Define - a conclusion reached on the
basis of evidence and reasoning.
2. Choral Reading - Used during reading. I will provide each student with a copy of the chosen passage, then I will read aloud to
model fluent reading for the students. Tell the students to use a marker or finger to follow along while they read. I will then
reread the passage and have all the students in the group read the story or passage aloud together. Define - reading aloud in
unison with a whole class that helps build students’ fluency, self-confidence.
3. Word Mapping - Used before or after reading. I will introduce the vocabulary word and the word map template to the students. I
will teach them how to use the map by putting the target word in the central box, and I will ask students to suggest words to put
in the other boxes which answer - “What is it? What is it like? What are some examples?. Lastly, I will model how to write the
definition using the information on the word map. Define - word map is a graphic organizer that promotes vocabulary
development.
