1.Introduction

This document describes the basic functions of SG2500HV-MV-20 for grid support

This document is intended to be used by the specific addressees; No part of this document may be reproduced or
distributed in any form or by any means, without the prior written permission of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd.

2.Islanding Prevention

Islanding refers to the phenomenon that the load and part of the power grid continue to operate in isolation after
disconnection from the main grid. Islanding may be either planned or unplanned. Standard requirements for
protection against islanding target at the prevention of unplanned islanding.

According to the IEC 61727, all grid-connected inverters must possess an effective anti-islanding function (they shall
be configured with at least one active and one passive effective anti-islanding protection method). At the same time,
this standard stipulates that the effective anti-islanding protection for grid-connected inverters should actively shut
down the PV inverter within 2 seconds of disconnection from the grid.

3.Ramp Rate Control

The active power ramp rate can be set to control how the inverter increases or deceases its output power when the
PV power is increased due to irradiation rise or decreased due to power limitation;

4.Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT)

The LVRT requires the PV plant to stay in operation within certain voltage drop range due to the grid failure or
disturbance; meanwhile, PV plant should provide the dynamic support by feeding the reactive power to the grid in
response to grid voltage dip level.

6.Other Grid Support Functions

Other grid support functions can be achieved together with power plant controller (PPC);

Typical functions are listed below; Specific control functions have to following the specific requirements of the local
grid code.

Functions Descriptions
>Fixed setpoint values
>Dynamic setpoint values
Active Power >Specified Characteristic Curve P(f)
Control
The function helps reduce active power output as a function of over frequency thereby
supporting the grid to recover from an over frequency condition, also referred to as
Frequency-Watt.
>Setpoints Q or Cosφ
>Specified Characteristic Curve Q(V), (Also known as Volt-VAr)
Reactive Power as a Function of Voltage according to the local grid code,
Reactive Power >Specified Characteristic Curve Cosφ(P)
Control
> Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)
AVR (also known as Direct voltage regulation) is a form of continuously variable and acting
closed loop voltage regulation that controls the voltage level at the point of connection, within
the plant design and grid code limitations.
