SG2500HV-MV-20 DC & AC Protection Calculation
2.1. Calculation of DC Protection
The selection of the DC fuse shall be based on the specific string configuration
1) The rated voltage of the DC overcurrent protection device must not be less than the system voltage, which is
1500Vdc.
2) The rated current of the DC overcurrent protection device must be based on the configuration of the PV
sub-array connected with it; the calculation shall follow the IEC62548_2016 standard, chapter 6.5.5.2 PV
sub-array overcurrent protection, the nominal rated current (In) of overcurrent protection devices for PV
sub-arrays shall be determined with the following formula:
In > 1.25 × Isc s-array; and
In ≤ 2.4 × Isc s-array.
where Isc s-array is short circuit current of a PV sub-array at standard test conditions (STC), and equal to
I sc s-array = I SC MOD × N SA
where N SA is the number of parallel-connected PV strings in the PV sub-array.
I SC MOD is the short circuit current of a PV module or PV string at Standard Test Conditions (STC), as specified by the
manufacturer in the product specification plate
Overcurrent protection devices required for the protection of PV modules and/or wiring shall be selected to reliably
and consistently operate within 2h when an overcurrent of 135 % of the nominal device current rating is applied
( IEC61730-2) and in accordance with IEC 60364-4-43,
I b ≤ I n ≤ I z,

where Iz, the current carrying capacity of the cables to be protected. Ib is the load current or PV source current; I2, is
the current ensuring effective operation in the conventional time of the protective device.

3) For a period of 5 seconds or less, the thermal energy I t per ohm of conductor material allowed to pass by the
overcurrent protection device (available from the manufacturer datasheet) shall be less than that permitted
value for the particular conductor

where S is the cable cross section, Value of the constant k is according to table 43A of IEC 60364-4-43

SG2500HV-MV-20 DC & AC Protection Calculation
2.2. Calculation of AC Protection
A suitable fuse or circuit breaker for each individual inverter output must be installed in accordance with the
calculation below:
1) The rated voltage of the DC overcurrent protection device must not be less than inverter rated.AC voltage,
which is 550Vac (L-L)
2) in accordance with IEC 60364-4-43,
Ib ≤ In≤ Iz, where Iz, the current carrying capacity of the cables to be protected. Ib is the load current.
The temperature derating characteristics of the over current protection device shall be considered when
ambient temperature is over 40℃.
3) I CU > Max. AC short-circuit current
The max. short-circuit currents can be as high as 60 kA if the short-circuit occurs inside a 2.5 MVA transformer,
which is mainly determined by the short circuit impedance, the type of cable and cable length. the interrupting
capacity of the over current protection device shall be no less than the calculated max. short circuit current.

3.Selection of DC and AC Overcurrent Protection Devices

3.1. Selection of DC Load Switch and Fuse

The calculation below is based on the assumptions:
Typical module specifications (e.g. CS6X315P):

2) Determining the In

In>1.25 x 293.76A =367.2A

In ≤ 2.4 × 9.18A=705.0A

and In<Iz, in accordance with IEC 60364-4-43Iz, the current carrying capacity of the cables to be protected. typical
