Our brain has a dominant sphere and a non-dominant one.

For nearly __ population who are

right-handed, automatically the opposite sphere (left) is dominant. This doesn’t mean that we
don’t use the other sphere but just not as much. Research has shown that you can improve the
usage of both hemispheres, forging new and stronger connections between them, by
attempting complicated movements with your non-dominant side.

Not just eating, you can use the non-dominant hand for various activities to help trigger the
neurocircuitry responses.
For examples brushing
Writing
Using your mobile phone
Using the spoon
Combing your hair
Buttoning – unbuttoning
Opening the door
Painting etc.

Eating with the non-dominant hand may lead to slowing down for some folks due to the
inconvenience and ergo the satiety point is reached earlier due to the mindful eating process.
Slower eating will reward your body as it supports digestion which may help some in losing
weight.
However, this may not be the only sustainable way for weight loss. Also, with time, it will be
easier to eat as fast if not faster than the non-dominant hand due to training. So try but don’t
put all your eggs in only this basket.
