leading to E/R to ensure freeness of valve and E/R fire pumps if operational
are not effective. / Observe flow of water from hoses. Using one hose on
foc’sle deck and one on bridge wing (throw 12 metres) / Check Pressure on
discharge line near pump (sufficient pressure on the 2 hoses, pump pressure
as per maker’s instruction) / If possible check for operation in ballast condition
(check records of 4-Monthly reporting as per format given in MTM 8.2)
Ensure vacuum pump (if fitted) is in working condition.
TS02 Oily Water separator Switch on unit / Ensure overboard discharge valve is shut / Ensure that the 2/E
pump can be run from bilge – tank/bilges / Obscure path across photo electric
cell of 15ppm with a brush etc or activate the press button for testing / Watch
for 15 ppm alarm activation, operation of 3-way valve indicating by pass to
bilge holding tank or stopping of bilge pump. / Alarm should sound and 3-way
valve should activate or pump should stop at 15ppm. It should not be more
than 15ppm on the sensor unit. (Operational test to be carried out for at least
20 mins).

demonstrate operation of equipment. Carry out live test of MF/HF equipment
with a Coast station (only on dry cargo ships) / Check for acknowledgement
from shore stations / Check for relevant entries in GMDSS log book.
TS05 Emergency generator / Check for starting methods / Normally 2 different methods required. Common E/O
Battery supply methods are: Compressed Air, Hydraulic, and Battery operated. / A good
practice would be to check simulated black out condition by closing ESB tie
(To be carried out only if breaker on MSB / Check Emergency Generator starts automatically and
vessel is at anchorage and comes on load within 45 secs.
there is sufficient time to Caution :
allow gyro to settle down All Navigation / Bridge equip. power supply from ESB will need to be
and to reset all equipment). switched off prior doing this test.
Observe condition of batteries / Observe method of filling of Air receiver / (air
receiver should be pressed up at all times)
TS06 Air pipes for F.O, Ballast and (Note: - Random check: Physical check by removal of vent heads not to be 2/E &
FW tanks done on liquid cargo ships while at berth, or while carrying out cargo C/O
operations at sea.) At least 20% of all vent heads to be opened and check the
condition of floats in air pipes for ballast, FW and FO tanks. (Check record of
inspection and ask how it was done. If in doubt, randomly select vents and
have their heads removed to inspect physical condition of the float) / Check Air
pipes for wastage & holes / Check Flame arrestors in air pipes for FO tanks.
