[2] Predicting Student Placement using PCA and Machine Learning Technique
This Paper[2] employs machine learning, specifically the Random Forest algorithm, to enhance
the prediction of student placements in educational institutions. Analyzing over 500 samples,
the study considers criteria like attendance, backlog, communication, programming skill, verbal
and aptitude exams. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is utilized to reduce dataset
dimensionality, pinpointing key elements influencing placement predictions. The transformed
dataset is then employed to train a Random Forest model, achieving an impressive 97%
accuracy. By simplifying and focusing on essential factors, this approach improves the efficiency
and accuracy of student placement predictions.
In Paper[3] The proposed study aims to assess a student's Emotional Quotient (EQ) for job
placement and correlate it with their industry survival ability, considering demographic factors
like age, gender, academic performance, location, parental education, income, and family
structure. Utilizing various Machine Learning (ML) ensemble techniques, the study assigns
ratings (1 to 10) to each parameter and evaluates results to determine the most effective
approach. The inquiry seeks to identify factors beyond academic performance influencing quick
job placement. The study's fundamental contribution lies in establishing a method for
calculating a student's emotional intelligence, explaining its evaluation, highlighting its
advantages, psychometric validity, and challenges. Validation studies illustrate how
measurements can accurately evaluate the behavioral aspects of EQ, contributing to a holistic
understanding of factors impacting a student's employability beyond academic achievements.
[4] Performance Analysis of Placement prediction system using Support Vector
Machine over Random Forest Algorithm
The paper[4] aims to introduce an innovative Placement Prediction System utilizing Support
Vector Machine and Random Forest Algorithm within a machine learning framework. The main
focus is on predicting student placements and comparing the efficiency of these two algorithms.
The methods involve iterating Support Vector Machine and Random Forest Algorithm ten times
each, with a sample size of 5, to predict accuracy percentages for identifying student
placements. The results indicate that Support Vector Machine outperforms Random Forest
Algorithm significantly, achieving an accuracy of 92.7% compared to 63.6%. The statistical
analysis, employing an Independent Sample T-test with a significance level of 0.03 (P < 0.05),
emphasizes the high statistical significance favoring Support Vector Machine. In conclusion,
within the confines of this study, the proposed Placement Prediction System demonstrates that
Support Vector Mac0hine offers superior accuracy in predicting student placements.
The paper[5] leverages educational data mining and machine learning techniques to develop a
predictive model for estimating the likelihood of students securing jobs through campus
placement. The technology used includes various machine learning approaches such as Random
Forest (RF), Support Vector Machines (SVM), Naive Bayes (NB), Neural Network (NN), and K-
nearest Neighbour (KNN). The model is constructed based on the analysis of academic
performance data from 1105 final-year undergraduate students, considering factors like exam
marks, cumulative grade points, gender, secondary and higher secondary school percentages,
medium of instruction, board of study, admission quota, course specialization, CGPA, and
history of arrears. The findings reveal classification accuracies ranging from 75 to 94 percent,
indicating the effectiveness of the proposed models. The study emphasizes the significance of
data-driven investigations in developing learning analytics models for higher education, with the
potential to inform decision-making processes. The technology employed here underscores the
role of machine learning algorithms in early predicting students at higher risk of facing
challenges in securing campus placements.
[6] Student Performance Patterns in Engineering at the University of Johannesburg: An
Exploratory Data Analysis
In paper[6], recent advances in data science and educational data mining are
harnessed to gain valuable insights into engineering students' performance
patterns and potential influences on success. The technology employed for data
analysis and visualization of correlation between variables is Python. The
utilization of Python underscores its effectiveness in handling and analyzing
complex datasets in the context of educational research. The exploratory data
analysis applied to the real-world dataset allows for the visualization of
correlations between variables, aiding in understanding student performance
patterns. The study reveals gender disparities in engineering enrollments,
dropout rates influenced by the choice of qualifications, and a slightly better
performance by female students compared to their male counterparts. The
correlation analysis, facilitated by Python, highlights the absence of significant
relationships between variables such as gender, race, admission point score,
mathematics marks, and science marks with student performance in engineering.
This underscores the role of data science tools like Python in uncovering
meaningful insights from educational data, enabling informed interventions to
reduce dropout rates and improve student success in engineering.
