Mix and Match

In the depths of the Black Sea, you could expect to find lots of fish, crabs and perhaps a few
jellyfish. But what about human artists? It’s true. For an exhibition in the Ukraine, a group of
painters put on their scuba gear, collected canvasses and paints and dived to the bottom of the
sea. They could only stay there for about 40 minutes, using the time to paint beautiful
pictures. But the surroundings are challenging, not least because the colours look very
different underwater to how they look on the surface.
1 What does ‘It’s true’ refer to in the third sentence.
a) that there are jellyfish in the Black Sea
b) that artists paint pictures in the Black Sea
2 Why could the artists only paint for 40 minutes?
a) because they were breathing through scuba equipment
b) because they didn’t take enough paint
3 Why are the surroundings ‘challenging’?
a) because there are dangerous sea creatures
b) because the conditions are different to those on the surface
4 What happens to colour underwater?
