IxChariot Trade-Up Program

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Ixia’s new IxChariot Trade-Up Program represents an ideal opportunity to reach out to
customers to upsell existing solutions (in- and out-of-warranty), and deliver even greater value
and functionality. As detailed here, IxChariot 8.x introduces a host of powerful new benefits,
and an ideal opportunity to expand existing deployments.

Read on to see how leveraging the Trade-Up Program benefits you and your customers, and
how easy it is to get started.

Overview
Q. What’s new in IxChariot 8.1?

A. IxChariot lets you and your customers proactively assess the performance of any application
running on wired, wireless, or virtual networks. Trusted by thousands of enterprises and
government agencies worldwide, the solution is comprised of the IxChariot Server and
Performance Endpoints.

IxChariot 8.x introduces a powerful new web interface, and the IxChariot server can now be
deployed as a virtual appliance for simplified rollout and maintenance. Key benefits introduced
in IxChariot 8.1 include:

• Web-based access: Users access and run tests from a browser; scaling tests is even
easier
• Multi-user capabilities out of the box
• Multi-platform support – no longer limited to Windows®
• New realistic apps added from Ixia’s BreakingPoint application library (AppLibrary)
• Real and virtual environments: Measures device performance over Wi-Fi, wired,
and virtual infrastructures

Q. What is the IxChariot Trade-Up Program?

A. Ixia’s new IxChariot Trade-Up Program provides a simple, cost-effective way for IxChariot
customers—both in- or out-of-warranty—to convert their node-locked licenses to floating
licenses that equip them to use the latest version, IxChariot 8.x (they can keep using 7.x, too).
Q. Who qualifies for the Program?

A. This program is for customers with IxChariot node-locked licenses only, whether in- or out-of-
warranty.

Q. Why should customers trade up?

A. The program gives customers an opportunity to trade any number of node-locked licenses to
obtain equivalent floating-with-one-user-seat licenses, thus extending IxChariot test
functionality to a much broader team.

Q. Can they still use previous versions of IxChariot?

A. Yes. Customers can still use IxChariot 7.x versions and also use the latest IxChariot 8.x virtual
edition when ready. All customers must have their existing node-locked registration(s) available
to participate.

Customer Benefits
Q. What are the benefits to customers under warranty?

A. Benefits are powerful and multi-fold:

• Ease-of-use. IxChariot 8.x features Web-based access making the product even easier to
use.
• They can easily extend IxChariot to a much broader team at a very low cost paying just
$100 to trade up from node locked to equivalent floating pair and 1 seat (extended 1-yr
warranty purchase is required).
• No external license server required: Customers will be able to continue to use IxChariot
7.30 while installing the floating license on local PC.
• Smooth migration. Customers can begin using IxChariot 8.x. whenever they’re ready but
continue to use 7.30 with the same shared license
• Ease of expansion. Customers can continue to extend functionality to additional teams
with a multi-user upgrade option for more seats.
Q. What are the benefits to customers out of warranty?

A. Out-of-warranty customers benefit in numerous was as well:

• They stay current with the latest version of the product, updates, and support
• Increased value with a nominal trade-up cost (no back maintenance)
• Purchasing the new AppLibrary from BreakingPoint delivers even greater benefits
• They can easily extend IxChariot to additional teams with a multi-user upgrade option
for more seats
• Web-based access makes the product even easier to use

Q. Which customers should move to 8.x? What key features are different or not available in
8.x? This can be used to decide if a customer should move to 8.x.

A.

• Video and IPTV

• Detailed configuration options
• Importing full configuration files (.TST)
• API is python-based instead of TCL
• Check out (borrow) license

Note: Since the floating license works similar to node-locked, customers can trade-up and
continue to 7.30 until they are ready to deploy and use 8.x.

Cost
Q. How much does it cost to trade up?

A. Out-of-warranty, node locked customers pay for the trade-up and warranty up front.

How It Works
Q. Can customers continue using IxChariot 7.10 or 7.30? Is it mandatory to use 8.1 right away
if they trade-up?

A. No, they can move when ready. When they receive new floating license registrations, they
just register it on the same Windows PC that runs 7.10/7.30 and continue to use it as before.

Q. Where do customers “install” 8.1?

A. The new version is deployed as a virtual appliance on a VMware hypervisor. As such, it now
runs on Mac, Windows, or a dedicated hypervisor system. Users can access all IxChariot 8.1
features through a browser. Check the Release Notes for details.

Q. Where do customers “install” the new endpoints?

A. The endpoints work exactly as they always have. Simply install the Windows, Linux, Mac, or
other endpoints as before.
Q. Are there different endpoints for 7.30 and 8.1?

A. No, the endpoints are unified. Installed 8.1 endpoints from our Endpoint Library will work
with 7.x and 8.x consoles.

Quoting
Q. How does the quoting process work?

A. Details are as follows:

• Regardless of whether customers are in- or out-of-warranty, there is an up-front

extended warranty to pay with the 909-0505 part number. Renewal price varies based
on the current list price of the software (use New Entitlement PN from table above),
geographical region, and customer classification (see the example below).

• Quotes shall have two part numbers, shown in table above.

920-2501 through 920-2510 - for in-warranty customers and extended warranty 909-
0505.
920-2601 through 920-2610 - for out-of-warranty customers and extended warranty
909-0505.

• Example (actual) quote:

• UPSELL: You can upsell other features to the same quote

• 920-0020 (1 seat) • 920-0043 (1 user)
• 920-0021 (5 seats) • 920-0044 (5 user)
• 920-0022 (10 seats) ++ • 920-0045 (10 user) ++
Licensing
Q. Does the floating license require a separate Ixia License server?

A No it does not. The floating pairs and seats are registered on the IxChariot 8.x server.

Q. Will it be possible to run the IxChariot 7.30 desktop application using the same license?
In other words, can customers use 8.1 and 7.x at the same time?

A. Yes. Point the 7.30 application to the 8.x as its license server to “share” the licenses.

Q. How does the sharing of pairs and seats work with both 7.30 and 8.1 in use at the same
time?

A. The new license would reside on the 8.1 appliance. If only one seat license is purchased, one
test can be run either in 7.x or 8.x. With more than one seat license, a customer can run tests
from both versions of the product at the same time. The pairs are shared between the two
versions.

Q. What does “multi-user” mean?

A. A single virtual appliance can run several different test sessions at once. With multiple user
seats, one installation of IxChariot 8.x can be used by dozens of team members.

Ixia Marketing
Q. How is Ixia promoting the program?

A. Ixia will launch a Q4 campaign advertising the trade-up program to promote awareness and
allow customers to budget appropriately. As part of this campaign, we will collect and forward
leads to the appropriate resellers.

Since this is not a promotion but an actual trade up program, the offer is not time bound.
