rather than dimensions as many blocks
have identical dimensions. RETURNS ARE

RECOMMENDED MIX
PROPORTIONS
All mortar should conform with the relative
Australian Standard Code. The following
mix proportions are recommended for
General Purpose usage:
Cement 1 part by volume
Hydrated Lime 1 part by volume
Sand 6 parts by volume
CONTROL JOINTS
Control joints must be in accordance with
the applicable Australian standards and
Local Building codes.
WET WEATHER
During wet weather we recommend all
blocks on site are covered with plastic .
BLOCK LAYING
All blocks must be laid dry and must not
be wetted, except in extremely hot or dry
conditions. In these circumstances it may
be desirable to lightly spray the bonding
surface with water immediately before
laying. You should confirm with your
builder prior to laying.
JOINT REINFORCING
We recommend horizontal joint reinforcing
as per specifications or at 600mm vertical
centres. Also refer to the relevant building
codes and Australian standards.
CLEANING
At all times keep walls clean during laying.
DO NOT USE ACID OR SPIRITS at any
time as it will irreversibly acid etch and
affect the finished colour and texture
of walls. Consult the cleaning product
manufacturer for further information.

• Strength as stated in this design guide: All Grey Blocks listed are made to minimum grade strength of 12MPa. Higher strengths can be
achieved in our standard range. When additional block strength is required for core filling as specified by engineers, please consult with
your Midland Brick Representative.
