Abdulsalami Abubakar was the military head of state of Nigeria from 1998 to 1999.

His main aim was to correct the poor image of Nigeria during Abacha's
administration. During his administration, Nigeria’s foreign policy was focused on
*strengthening economic /military transactions*, *diplomatic engagements*, and
*security relations among other countries*. He also focused on *promoting regional
stability*, fostering *economic cooperation with other countries*, and playing an
active role in international diplomacy. The government sought(need) to strengthen
relations with neighboring African countries and other global partners, while also
addressing regional security challenges. Nigeria also played a significant role in
peacekeeping efforts in various African countries and participated in international
forums to address global issues
