Brief Engine Strip

PPE \ VPE

Prepare work area

Obtain technical information

Gather relevant tools

Remove ancillary items, aux belt, alternator etc…..

Remove timing covers

Ensure timing marks align with use off locking pins

Remove locking pins

Remove manifolds

Remove injection pipes and leak back hoses

Remove heater plug wiring

Mark direction and remove timing belt

Remove brake vacuum pump

Remove cam cover

Remove camshaft

Remove hydraulic cam followers

Remove cylinder head bolts

Remove cylinder head and head gasket

Remove sump

Remove oil pump and pick up

Remove connecting rod end caps

Remove connecting rods with pistons

Inspect all shell bearings for wear

Inspect piston rings for wear

Inspect pistons for wear, glazing, cracks and ovalility using a DTI

Inspect connecting rods for damage or blueing

Inspect head gasket surfaces for bow or distortion and general condition

Inspect head gasket


Refit pistons using a piston ring compressor and leave pistons level

Refit connecting rod end caps to the correct torque

Check Piston protrusion with engineer’s straight edge

Check crankshaft end float with DTI

Refit oil pump and pick up

Refit sump

Refit head gasket and head

Refit head bolts to the correct torque and tighten sequence

Refit oil charged hydraulic cam followers

Refit camshaft and torque bolts

Refit cam cover

Refit brake vacuum pump

Align timing marks and fit belt

Rotate engine twice and recheck marks

Refit injection pipes and leak back hoses

Refit manifolds

Refit timing covers

Refit ancillary items

Restore work area

Restore tools
