COURSE SUMMARY
Human Resource management is a central function of any organization. HR management can
be defined as the effective use of human capital in an organization through the management
of people-related activities. With an increase in knowledge work in today’s industry, it has
become increasingly important to manage what has become an organizations most important
asset, human resources. This course aims to familiarize students with the importance and
challenges of the management of human resources in the modern context. Emphasis is placed
on the lifecycle of human resources in an organization. This course examines the role of the
human resource professional as a strategic partner in managing organizations. Significant
functions such as recruitment, selection, development, performance appraisal, retention,
compensation, and labour relations are examined. Thus, a basic understanding of human
resource management is essential whether the student works in a government agency,
financial services, hospital, high technology industry, retail, educational institution, or other
type of organization. A key objective of this course is to show that HR management is more
than just accepting employment applications and keeping records; it is a central and strategic
organizational activity of increasing complexity and importance.

TEACHING-LEARNING STRATEGIES
 Combination of lecture and case-based method with high focus on self-learning and
practice.
 Teaching to be carried out as per a detailed course plan designed in accordance with the
syllabus with the help of Power-point presentations, followed closely by Assignments and
Lectures.
 The evaluation would be based on continuous internal assessment and an end-term
examination. The emphasis is on self-learning and self-regulation.
 Role Play, case studies, assignments, presentations, working exercises, quizzes and group
discussions on current issues and other teaching techniques to be used in the classroom for
greater effectiveness.
