Course Title: Hospital Infrastructure Management L T P/S FW/SW AS CU

Course Code: ARCH 511

Course Objectives:
 To study and comprehend the typologies and functional interrelationships among various spaces and their planning in various multi-speciality
hospitals.
 To introduce and develop comprehensive understanding of the various engineering services infrastructure deployed in hospital and their
management.

Course Contents/Syllabus:

Module I: Introduction to Hospital Planning
To understand the Concept & Principles of Hospital Planning, Typologies, Morphology and the various Design Criteria 20%
and Parameters of Modern Multi-specialty Hospitals.

Module II: Hospital Functions and Space Programming


Hospital Space Programming, Functional Zoning, Planning In-patient/ Out-patient Clinics, Planning the different
Departments like Administration, Specialized department, Emergency services, Support Services etc. 30%
Module III: Hospital Services. Case Studies.
Electrical, HVAC, Solid Waste (including Medical Waste) Management, Fire Fighting Norms, Water Supply and
Sewerage Disposal, ICT, Parking Norms, Specification of various specialized and Support Services etc. 40%

Module IV: Professional Skill Development Activities (PSDA)


Case Studies of Hospitals with the emphasis on modern hospital facilities in terms of services, various medical 10%
specialties, equipment planning & structure design.
Course Learning Outcomes:
 Students will be able to comprehend the planning principles of Hospitals and integration of the functions and spatial requirements.
 Students will be able to comprehend various services Planning in Hospitals and Hospital specific Engineering Services, Utilities and norms and apply
the acquired knowledge in hospital designs.

Pedagogy for Course Delivery: Fundamental theories shall be delivered through Lectures and Presentations. Students Group Presentations on Literature and
Case Studies shall be done in Tutorials.

List of Professional Skill Development Activities (PSDA):

i. Interaction with industry expert in healthcare design.


ii. Market survey of medical equipment manufacturing companies like GE healthcare, Philips healthcare etc.
iii. Documentation of visit to primary & secondary health care centers in Delhi NCR.
iv. Visit and stakeholder behavioral survey in Super specialty hospitals.
