Một số quy tắc đoán trọng âm của từ(stress)

I* Đối với từ có 2 âm tiết:
1. Các Danh từ, tính thường nhấn âm 1:
Egs:busy, table, teacher, pretty, happy, student, river....

Ngoại lệ: machine, polite, police, mistake, alone, July, canal, hotel, ideal,idea,
success, campaign, museum, surprise, device, guitar, mature, … lại nhấn âm 2

- Một số từ vừa là danh, vừa là động: khi là danh thì nhấn âm 1, là động thì nhấn
âm 2: record, present...(ít thi)

2. Đối với Động từ thường nhấn âm 2.

Egs: Các động từ :escape, forget,relax. enjoy, accept, destroy, allow, attract,
reply, apply, deny, advise, decide, invite, …nhấn 2

Chú ý: một số động từ 2 âm có đuôi ( en, y(đọc là i), er, ow(đọc là ou/ ơu),
ish thì nhấn âm 1: offer, order, cover, waver ,enter, answer, open,
happen,threaten, blacken,listen, marry, carry,study, borrow, follow, swallow,
finish, visit , publish, punish....... nhấn 1.
Ngoài ra: manage , travel, promise ,practise, struggle, suffer..nhấn 1

- Các giới từ sau nhấn âm 2: between, across, among, above, along…

II* Đối với từ có hậu tố ta dựa vào các đuôi của nó để đoán trọng
âm:
1. -Các đuôi sau luôn nhận trọng âm:(nhấn vào chính những đuôi
này)

- ee employee refugee (người tị

(người leo núi)

lên.

5. Những danh từ ghép thường nhấn âm 1
