2024 Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Auditions

Each year the Kansas City Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota sponsors scholarship auditions for area
collegiate musicians. We recognize outstanding Vocalists, Pianists, and Instrumentalists from the Greater
Kansas City Area by offering the following scholarships:
$1,850 Carolyn McDill Memorial
$1,500 Leona Schaefer Memorial
$1,500 SAI for [active undergraduate members only]
$1,000 George W & Ada Heath Ultch Memorial Fund
$1,000 Alumnae Memorial
$1,000 Second Century Award
$1,000 Rose Award

Prizes may be awarded to Undergraduate or Graduate College students in the areas of piano, voice, organ or
instrumental. Applicants are not required to be members of Sigma Alpha Iota to audition. Male and Female
college students must meet the following requirements:

• Applicants must not be over the age of 25 (27 for vocalists) at the time of the audition. Confirmation of
age will be required at the audition.
• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university within a 125-mile radius of the Kansas
City metropolitan area.
• Applicants must be degree-seeking students currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for the
Spring 2024 semester AND with intention to enroll in the Fall 2024 semester for a minimum of 6 credit
hours.
• Applicant must perform music literature as directed by the “Scholarship Audition Requirements”.
• 2023 Scholarship recipients are ineligible to audition.

Award recipients will be required to perform at the Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship Concert on:
Monday, April 8, 2024 at 6:30 P.M.

 2024 Scholarship Audition Requirements
✓ Piano and Voice students must perform by memory.
✓ Please do not include chamber literature in your audition repertoire.
✓ Applicant must provide own accompanist.
✓ The applicant must provide one (1) set of original, published music for the judges plus two (2)
additional copies. If the piece is NOT in the Public Domain, all the music must be purchased originals.
If you choose to use photocopied music, you must be prepared to accept “Comments Only”.
✓ Measures must be numbered.
✓ The audition time limit will be 10 minutes, during which the judges may interrupt your first piece to
request you to move on to your second piece.

PIANO or INSTRUMENTAL*
• One movement of a Baroque or Classical composition
• One movement of a Romantic, Impressionistic or Modern composition

VOICE
Select two from the following requirements:
• Aria from a standard opera or oratorio
• One French, German or Italian Art Song sung in the original language
• One Art Song in English

*Memorization is not required for Instrumental applicants.

Submit the completed 2024 SAI application form and a $35.00 entry fee (check or money order, no cash)
payable to SAI KC Alumnae Chapter postmarked by March 10, 2024. Mail to the following address or use the
Zelle app (instructions below).
