REED 3 MODULE 2
Lesson 2

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Consider yourself a parent who needs to choose potential godparents for your
child. For the persons with whom you want to share the duty of bringing up your kid in
the faith, list at least five qualities. Justify each requirement.
1. Faithful
Godparents must be a person of deep faith who lives the faith. Meaning, he or she
attends Sunday Mass, observes the laws of the Church, and devoted to his or her spiritual
growth by means of prayer and the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. He or she must
be a Catholic who has received the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and confirmation and
who understand Catholic teachings.
2. Responsible
The godparents must be responsible in strengthening the faith and commits my
child to be an active member of the Church. They are responsible or serves as our proxies
if we parents are unable or fail to provide for the child's religious training. He or she is
ready to accept the responsibility of being a part of godchild's life for the rest of his/her
life.
3. Supportive
Godparents will support and help me assist in developing and establishing faith to
my child. Praying for my child and sharing the Word of God is an example. He or she
also support my child in everything that he/she does especially when it come to his/her
spiritual development.
4. Role Model
Godparents are not simple distributors of gifts; they point out the star to follow.
They will seek to lead their godchild to Jesus by showing him or her how the Father, Son
and Holy Spirit are at work in their lives and in their hearts. They should do their best to
serve as positive role models for my child, especially when it comes to honoring and
practicing the faith. The more time a godparent and godchild spend together, the more
influence the godparent can have over their godchild's personal and religious life.
5. Sincere
Godparents must be sincere in my child to be able to do all their duties in bringing
up my kid in the faith. They must love my child in every aspect and be a good listener to
him’/her. They must also be open to my child and spends some time with her even in a
short period of time. It is because, what matters most is not necessarily the length of those
shared moments, but the quality: it’s the godparent’s personal generosity of spirit that
makes the biggest difference.
