Assessment Task 2: Demonstration

TASK SUMMARY
This task is divided into two parts:
 Part A requires you to write the advertorial copy for the marketing activity outlined in the
marketing activities action plan from Assessment Task 2.
 Part B requires you to respond to a scenario in which the advertorial is not meeting the expected
outcomes.

RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THIS TASK


 Access to textbooks and other learning materials.
 Access to a computer with the Internet
 Access to Microsoft Word or a similar program.
 The Marketing Plan and company information you reported on in Assessment Task 1.
 The Advertorial guidelines from your chosen newspaper in Assessment Task 1.
 The finalised Marketing Activities plan you submitted in Assessment Task 2 Part B.

This task may be done in your own time as homework or you may be given time to do this task in
class (where applicable).

PART A – WRITE THE ADVERTORIAL COPY

INSTRUCTIONS

Scenario
The marketing manager has indicated that the purpose of the article is to generate awareness and
interest in the company and that will hopefully lead to increased sales.

1. Refer back to the marketing plan for your company and gather information including company’s
products and services, to prepare for your advertorial.

2. The structure of your advertorial should be as follows:
 A headline
 An opening paragraph (introduction) that provides the most important and interesting
news
 Further short paragraphs, each one with a main idea and different fact. They may also
include quotes from people involved or experts
 Details in order of importance, with the least important details at the end of the article
 A final summary of facts and opinions at the end of the article.
3. Your advertorial should also combine the following language features to inform, entertain and
persuade as follows:
 Clear and concise writing.
 Written in the third person.
 Use of active or passive voice, depending on the focus and which is more engaging for
the reader.
 Must be factual and accurate.
 Needs to include quotes, comments, opinions, statements and observations from
people involved or experts on the topic.
 Give people labels so that the reader knows who they are straight away, for example:
‘the CEO, Mr Smith’.
 Should avoid racist, sexist or religious slurs or bias.
 Should be accurate and balanced.

4. Send an email to the marketing manager (your assessor), with completed advertorial to seek their
feedback.

PART B – AMEND THE MARKETING ACTIVITIES ACTION PLAN

INSTRUCTIONS

Scenario
The results from the first two weeks of the marketing campaign you have worked on (that is the
advertorial publication) are in. The marketing manager has sent you the results of the monitoring
program for phone queries and the Google Analytics results to compare to the goals of the
marketing plan. These are the results:

The marketing manager requires you to:


 analyse and document the results and compare them to the campaign goals outlined in the
Marketing Activities Action Plan
 come up with suggested changes that may improve the effectiveness of the campaign
 amend the marketing activities action plan to reflect your suggested changes.
