3. You are provided with copper sulphate (CuSO4) solution, a beaker, copper strip,
2 cells, connecting wires, an iron nail and a switch.

a. Arrange the apparatus as shown in Figure 1.

b. Close the switch and observe the experiment for 3 minutes.

c. Record your observations in Table 1.

4. You are provided with three test tubes in a rack, measuring cylinder, dropper, 2m
sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and solutions A, B and C which are copper (II)
sulphate, aluminium sulphate and iron (II) sulphate but not necessarily in that order.

a. Place 5cm3 of solution A into a test tube.

b. Add 3 drops of sodium hydroxide solution into the test tube containing
solution A.

c. Observe and record the colour of the precipitate formed in the table of
results.

d. Add 10 drops of sodium hydroxide solution A.

e. Record whether the precipitate is soluble or insoluble in the table below.

f. Repeat steps a to e using solution B and C.
