Old Testament Overview (Sessions 4-6)

Session 4
1. What were the main differences between Saul and David? How did these differences affect
the kingdom of Israel?
Answer:
There are some major differences between the kingship of Saul and David. These two
men are given the most attention in 1 and 2 Samuel. David and Saul are foils of one another. Saul
was rejected by God while David was a man after God’s own heart. However, if studied
carefully, the lives carefully both of the men had some incredible failures in their life. Saul failed
to obey the Lord in his commands and David committed adultery with Bathsheba. Their strengths
and weaknesses led to major chaos, some rejection, and revival in between.

2. What are some lessons you learned from the prominent characters in 1 and 2 Samuel, and 1
and 2 Kings? How can you share this with someone from your victory group or someone
you are reaching out this week?
Answer:
Whether we find ourselves in a position similar to Saul or David, there are a few lessons we
can learn from their relationship and kingship are as follows:
 God judges us by our hearts, not our outward appearance.
 God wants us to have confidence in Him, not pride in ourselves.
 God calls us to follow His Will, not our own.
 God calls us to follow His commands faithfully, not selectively.

Session 5
1. Which books discussed in this section would you like to study further?
Why?
Answer:
Since I already read the books of Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther and I just loved reading
these books in the bible. With that, I have an idea that the book of Ezra and Nehemiah was
originally a single work, and the three books are interrelated, thus I wanted to main points and
spiritual outlines present in this books, especially that these books depict workplace.
2. How do historical accounts helps understand present circumstances? What one insight you
gained from this session that you can share with your Victory group?
Answer:
 Stories, prophecies, and parables, in many situations, have much deeper meanings that the
reader will miss if they do not understand the original historical context. In certain cases, the
verse may have a completely different meaning in the ancient world as opposed to how we
might interpret it today.
 The book of Esther is an amazing account that shows God's hand in the deliverance of His
people.

Session 6
1. Choose your favorite psalm, identify which kind of psalm it is, and explain how it has
affected your life and relationship with God.
Answer:
Psalm 91 is a call to confidence in a God who, if you make him your resting place, will
never leave you.

2. Why do you think God included Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon in the Bible? How do
they strengthen our relationship with God?
Answer:
The key to understanding the work is to see it as an example of biblical apologetics. It
points out that apart from God, life is temporary and futile.
