CHURCH

We believe that the true Church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Christ
Jesus have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which
He is the head.

What is the Church?

The word “church” can have several meanings:

•A physical building

•A local group of believers

•A religious denomination

•All believers worldwide

1 Corinthians 1:2 NIV

To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people,
together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours

•The word “church” refers to the universal body of believers(Matt. 16:18)

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not
overcome it.
Biblical Images of the Church

The Church is described as:

•The People of God (2 Cor. 6:16)

•The Body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23)

•The Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 3:16-17)

•Universal and Local (1 Cor. 12:13)

The Role of the Church

The Church has three main functions:

•To glorify God (Jn. 4:23-24)

•To build itself up in faith and knowledge (Eph.4:13)

•To bring the Gospel message to the world (Matt. 28: 18-20)

“Christians do not merely send missionaries, they are missionaries themselves.”
