Pursuant to the directions set by the DepEd Order 62, s. 2011, to support
Description those who are serving in IP communities in developing knowledge , skills
and attitudes needed to implement the vision of a culture-responsive and
community- based K to 12 Curriculum, a Retooling for Teachers and
School Heads assigned in School with IP Learners will be conducted.
1.1. To strengthen the capacity of DepEd in responding to IP learning
Objectives needs, in a manner that is flexible, demand driven and evidence based.
1.2. To develop the knowledge , skills and attitudes of teachers and
school heads to be an effective IPED implementers.
The activity started with a ritual, conducted by the elders coming from the
Preliminaries Matigsalug Tribe. House rules were given and the participants were
grouped into 6 groups with 10-11 members per group. First session was all
about the IP Situationer and the speaker was Maam Marrieta Gaer,
Principal I of Matina Elementary School. Group activities were given by
the facilitators where the participants were given time to learn and also
share their ideas and knowledge about IPED.
Second session was all about the IKSPs or the Indigenous Knowledge
Skills and Practices facilitated by sir Brian Banzon, Principal 1 of
Columbus Elementary School. One of the group activities conducted, was
clay molding wherein the participants were given a chance to think and put
themselves in the situations of our Indigenous Peoples coming from
different territories.
It was followed by a session called PAMANA KA by Maam Alma Tac-on,
the Division IPED Focal of Davao City. In this session, participants were
given time to watch a documentary wherein they were able to witness the
different tribes from different communities of Davao City. In this session
they were able to learn that in every tribe, and in every community the
traditions and cultures are different.
The last session on the first day was all about the History of Philippine
Education, facilitated by Maam Alma Tac-on. In here, the participants
learn how Indigenous Peoples Education started in the Philippines
particularly here in Davao City.
In the following day, November 08, 2022 after having the MOL for the
day, the first session was all about the Journey of IPED in the Division of
Davao City. In here Maam Alma Tac-on stated all the activities conducted
and all the initiatves that Division of Davao City implemented in order to
support Deped Order 62, s. 2011.
Next session was facilitated by Maam Jannete Esteban, the former IPED
Focal Person of the Division of Davao City which is about the
Contextualization in the K-12 Curriculum and Kindergarten Updates. The
discussions went well and the participants were also given activities by
group wherein they can share their ideas and give some inputs about
contextualization.
Another session was also given by sir Eric A. Amistad, Principal III of
Marilog Central Elementary School and the session was all about the Legal
Basis for IP Education. The participants are well informed about the legal
basis and were able also to share experiences they have on their respective
schools where legal basis was touched as one of the concerns of their
schools.
At night, we have the Socialization. It was really full of fun, wherein the
hidden talents and skills of our participants were being showcased and all
of the participants are united. The Alukuy Band were there also, presenting
some of the dances of Matigsalug Tribe.
After that, we are glad to have the City IPMR of Davao in person of Datu
Rodolfo Mande the pride of Matigsalug Tribe. Datu shared his experiences
in IPED and asks some of the major concerns coming from the different
schools and addressed their needs.
Before ending the seminar, Rovielyn Lapinoza the school head of Sualon,
Integrated School from Obu Manuvu Tribe also share the life cycle of their
tribe and demonstrate also how to contextualize lesson plan and how to
teach using Obu Manuvu as a medium of instruction.
We ended the seminar full of ideas and concepts from the speakers and
facilitators. To give credits to the efforts and participations that everyone
shown during the seminar, we give certificate of recognition to the
speakers, facilitators and TWG’s and also certificate of participation to the
participants.
Highlights & The activities in every session. The participants are very participative and
Issues so creative that leads to the success of the said seminar.
Recommendation The participants suggested that DepEd will continue to have this kind of
activity towards the teachers also which is to conductRetooling for
Teachers assigned in the IP Schools.
