1. A three storied building consists of 6.5" thick floor slabs. The rectangular floor slabs are
20'x24' and is supported by beams at all its edges. The beams are 12" wide and 24" deep
supported by 4 columns of cross-section 24"x36" at the comers. Determine the
concentrated factored load on columns at plinth level for the given gravity loads.

5. (a) Architectural considerations limit the height of an 18 ft long simple span beam to 15 in.
and width to 12 in. The following loads and material properties are given. W d = 0.75 kip/ft,
WI = 1.60 kip/ft, f~ = 4500 psi and fy = 60 ksi. Determine the reinforcement for the beam. (20)

6. A reinforced one-way concrete slab is built integrally with its supports and consists of
two equal spans, each with a clear span of 16 ft. The service live load is 110 psf, and
4500 psi concrete is specified for use with steel with a yield strength equal to 60 ksi.
Design the slab following the provisions of the ACI. (Use the table provided in
