1. The 2022 Booker Prize for Fiction was announced on 17 October 2022.
2. The Booker Prize 2022 was awarded to Shehan Karunatilaka for his novel, The
Seven Moons of Maali Almeida
3. Sehan is the second Sri Lankan author to win the Booker Prize after it was awarded
to Michael Ondaatje for The English Patient in 1992

The winner receives £50,000 as well as the £2,500 awarded to each of the six shortlisted authors. Both
the winner and the shortlisted authors are guaranteed a global readership plus a dramatic increase in
book sales.
