1. Bare Infinitive and To Infinitive

A. Bare Infinitive

A bare infinitive is a particular verb that can be used without using 'to' in the sentence.
The bare infinitive is often referred to as base form, short infinitive, or zero infinitive. Unlike
the infinitive which only functions as a verbal (a word formed from a verb, but can function
as a noun, adjective, or adverb), the bare infinitive can also function as a verb.

The bare infinitive can be used in four conditions:

 After would rather or had better

(She had better finish her tasks immediately)
 After modal auxiliary verbs (will, shall, would, could, can, may, might, must,
should, and needn't), but not be able to, have to, ought to, and need to.
(Rafli will go to the beach after this)
 After everything related to do (do, does, did, doesn't, didn't, don't)
(Ryansyah didn’t do anything in the class)
 After certain verbs such as causative verbs (have, let, make), hear, help, and watch.
Help can be used with an infinitive or bare infinitive.
(They helped me bring these things to my home)

B. To Infinitive
While "To Infinitive" is a simple verb form with the prefix 'to'. The function of the
“To infinitive” is as follows:
 As Subject
Example: Studying hard makes us smart.
 Explaining Purpose
Reason + To Infinitive (Purpose)
Example: He came here (reason) to see me (purpose).

 As a Verb after a Doer Object

Example: Doni invited me to go with him.

 Describes a Noun/Noun
(Sentence) + N + To Infinitive
Example: I need a glass of milk to drink.

 Describes an adjective
(Sentence) + Adj + To Infinitive
Example: English is easy to learn.

 After an Adjective
Example: Dedi is too young to run this business.

 Following a Specific Verb

S + Specified V + (O) + To Infinitive
Certain verbs followed by to infinitives:
Request, permit, advise, plead, decide, expect, hope, intend, invite, order, learn,
intend, require, propose, promise, permit, desire, warn, want, inform, teach, urge.
Example: - I want to go.
- I want you to go.
- He expects me to study.
