FilmArray® 2.

0 LIS Interface
FilmArray 2.0 LIS Interface Overview
TECHNICAL
The FilmArray 2.0 system is capable of interfacing with a laboratory information
system (LIS). FilmArray test results can be electronically transferred from a ::: NOTE
FilmArray 2.0 system to an LIS (unidirectional communication). There are two
components of the FilmArray 2.0 LIS interface: the FilmArray Link software
developed by BioFire Diagnostics and the driver software developed by the LIS
or middleware vendor. To set up the interface, FilmArray customers will need to
obtain the FilmArray Link software and the appropriate driver from their LIS or
middleware provider.

The FilmArray Link software consists of the FilmArray Link Software v2.0 and
panel-specific FilmArray Link electronic report modules. The FilmArray Link
Software v2.0 is a plug-in to the FilmArray Software v2.0. The software retrieves
test result data from a configured FilmArray database, sends the data to the
corresponding electronic report module (where the data is formatted into an XML
file, also referred to as an electronic report), and then sends the electronic report
to BCI Link. The FilmArray Software v2.0 must be installed on a FilmArray 2.0
computer in order for the FilmArray Link Software v2.0 to be installed and used.

LIS and middleware vendors will need to provide drivers that are compatible with
the FilmArray 2.0 system. Each driver must be able to collect, read, and parse
XML files, as well as to reformat the parsed data into a form that can be read by
the LIS. Documentation is available from BioFire Diagnostics to aid LIS and
middleware vendors during driver development and can be requested through
the company’s website.

Purpose of the Document

The purpose of this document is to provide 1) a description of the FilmArray 2.0
LIS interface, 2) instructions for setting up and configuring the interface, and 3)
instructions for troubleshooting the FilmArray Link software.

FilmArray 2.0 LIS Interface Setup

The following subsections provide instructions for setting up a FilmArray 2.0 LIS
interface.

Note that the FilmArray Link Software v2.0 transmits the electronic reports using
one of two data transfer methods: File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or shared folder
protocol. Drivers developed by LIS and middleware vendors to provide an
interface with the FilmArray 2.0 system will support one of these data transfer
methods. Determine which method is supported by the driver to be used and
complete the appropriate instructions below to set up the interface.

BioFire Diagnostics recommends that the FilmArray 2.0 LIS interface

components are set up in the order outlined in these subsections.

2. Set up the FilmArray 2.0 system in the lab in the location to be used for
clinical testing if not already completed. Ensure the system is near a
network port.

3. Create a shared folder on a network which can be accessed by the

computer and the LIS. This folder is where test results will be shared
between the computer and the LIS. Ensure that none of the folder names
in the network path have spaces or special characters.

4. Connect the computer to the network via Ethernet cable.

5. Add the computer to the domain. Note that the local FilmArray user
account must be used to operate the FilmArray 2.0 system. Once the
computer has been added to the domain, the user name "./FilmArray" will
need to be used to log in to the computer (rather than the user name
"FilmArray").

6. Map the computer to the network drive on which the shared folder is
located. The username and password for the account that has read and
write access to the shared location on the network will be required to
complete the mapping.

Troubleshooting
The following sections describe troubleshooting of the FilmArray Link Software
v2.0 and the BCI Link software.

TECHNICAL
::: NOTE
FilmArray Link Software v2.0 Troubleshooting

The user may encounter run processing issues with the FilmArray Link Software
v2.0 where electronic reports are not sent to the LIS. These could be due to the
automated run processing settings or they could be the result of errors in the
software.

Automated Run Processing

If electronic reports are not automatically being sent to the LIS, verify that the
automated run processing status is Active and the button says “Stop” (see the
screenshot below). Refer to the FilmArray Link Software v2.0 technical note for
instructions regarding how to enable and disable automated run processing. If
automated run problems persist, refer to the Run Processing Errors section
below.

Run Processing Errors

A run transfer error may occur if the FilmArray Link software fails to deliver an
electronic report to the LIS. Messages associated with run transfer errors are
displayed in the Event Viewer section of the FilmArray Link tab. The time
associated with each run transfer error event, the event type (Error), and the
event details are shown in the Event Viewer.

The run transfer error messages and possible solutions for resolving the errors
are described in the table below. Note that local IT personnel and LIS specialists
can assist with troubleshooting the FilmArray Link Software v2.0.
