The Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP) is a transformative initiative that addresses the critical challenge
of environmental sustainability and climate resilience in Bangladesh's coastal regions. These vulnerable
areas face the threat of cyclones and loss of homes during disasters. Traditional housing structures prove
inadequate against cyclonic winds and heightened salinity levels. To tackle this, the SEP promotes the
adoption of cement blocks, a more resilient and sustainable alternative to traditional materials like
corrugated sheets and timber. However, the lack of community familiarity hinders adoption. The project
intervenes by building trust and understanding around cement blocks, empowering coastal communities
with a solution against climate change impacts. SEP has made significant strides in enhancing
microenterprises' access to modern technologies and resources, fostering environmental awareness, and
creating partnerships with the private sector through its multifaceted approach. By addressing housing
vulnerabilities and fostering sustainable practices, SEP has become a beacon of change in Bangladesh's
microenterprise sector, improving livelihoods and promoting resilience in the face of environmental
challenges.
